please, no questions on bow worth/value - that's too close to deal making.  

also, no third party questions - if folks need to get info they've got to register and ask themselves.

lemme expound on this a bit by copying over a pm reply i just made ...

estimating old bow value is hard at best. i've seen a pair of the exact same old howatt recurves selling for a $300 price spread difference by 2 different sellers. go figure. supply and demand, but mostly "vintage" anything is about demand.

google searches can help, since it might turn up some already up for sale. dunno for sure, but there might be a "blue book" for bows, both real old and newer ones. that'd be a good question to ask in a topic post!

the problem with asking estimated bow price questions on any forum is that it can easily open doors to selling - which, for the most part, is why folks are asking about value. we've had that happen here before and that lead to buying/selling/trading on a non-classifieds forum, and that lead to at least one bad deal. we just can't take that risk, which is why we have trad bow ad posting rules. hope y'all can understand where we're coming from on this matter.

I don't think anyone wants o break the rules her, and risk what we had a while back.

Lot's of guys coming in and asking for appraisals are usually new guys that are not really familiar with the rules.

The problem here is that the History and Collecting Forum is where the guys hang out that best know what old bows are worth, and that leads to people asking.

My best suggetion is to refer them to the auction site that we mus not name, go to compleated items and see what like model have sold for.

Other than that all we can really tell them is that they are worth what someone will pay, no more-no less.

It can get sticky if I tell a guy that a particular bow is worth  $XX.xx.  Basically that is one mans very subjective opinion, and can be misleading.

Rob kind of nailed it guys and geesus not wanting to stir the pot here by any means but some time back a someone on here and not no newbie by any means.Asked whats the bow worth type ? later a friend of mine told me he bought the bow from the guy because the guy was actually price shopping to sell the bow rather then really looking for info on an old bow nuff said but its been a happen...Lets not us or anyone else screw things up here please....now with that said I am one of the guys who got sucked in who told the guy what it was kind of worth lets try and not do that any more bd

I myself like the oversight and organization of the Trad Gang crew. It gives me a better feeling of trust in who I'm communicating with.. This is a Great Site with good people and I would hate to see it ruined by ripoffs and scammers !!!!!!!

I never could figure out why they needed to figure out what the value was when they were going to put it on the auction sight anyway.

I know that I have been guilty.  Might be the one BD is talking about when someone gave me a bow to sell to raise some money for another TradGanger.  I had no idea what price to put on it for him, so I know I asked here.  But I can understand the need for the rule and will do my best to remember it down the road.

I was not aware of this rule so I am now am now on board and will side step these types of questions. Jim
