Was out yard saling yesterday with the better half and found these bows and arrows for $17.00. One ben Pearson hickory kids recurve, one fiberglass longbow by Thunderbirb Tackle and a early Bear Grizzly static recurve and quiver and arrows. Any idea what yr. the Bear is, I think maybe 53 or 54?

Bear Grizzly is a 1957.

I thought they stopped using the large standing bear decal in 1955-6

Sorry, but I do not think that Grizz is a '57.  I'm leaning more toward '53-54 also.

well worth a saturday morning...being a left handed bow i would think that would make it more collectible?

If it's left handed only, then it would probably be collectible since I believe the Griz was all double-shelf in that era.  

Values tend to be in the $100-$150 range.

The grizzly is a 1954.  Should be dual shelf and looks like it belonged to a high school?

The '53 had a wedged leather shelf with the same red/orange glass, the '55 had black glass with ~4" belly laminations at the tips and decals, the '56 is essentially the same as the '55, but with silk screens and the '57 had black glass and a lamination between the cores rather than on the belly.

Sorry, Don't know what I was thinking. I have a 53, 55 and 57. The 53 is red glass single shelf just as yours with small running bear. The 55 is black glass with decals, dual shelf. The 57 has dual shelf, black glass and silkscreens as Jeremy described. I would put yours at a 54 also with the standing Bear and single shelf.

Man, I never get to the good yard sales. Everyone I go to is just full of peoples old underwear and cheap plastic &%#@ from China.

This bow has the dual shelf. The guy at the yardsale said it belonged to his father.

Sorry, the 53' is single shelf the 54s were dual.
