Do any of you have any info on the author of this book? A.E. Hodgkin. I believe the spelling is correct. I am interested in when it was written (1940's I would guess)and where(England?). Is there anything else about this man or any other works by him? I found the book to be fascinating? How about you? Thanks in advance.

I did a Google search and found that English author Adrian Eliot Hodgkin wrote the book in 1951.  The book has since been reprinted by an English publisher in 1996.  The publisher noted that the book was originally written for hunters, so the chapter on hunting was left in for historical interest, since archery hunting is now illegal.  Seems a shame, given England's archery heritage.

Cowbird - "The Archer's Craft" is a wonderful book. Great quotes. It was the only book that Hodgkin printed. "A Bibliography of Archery" by Lake & Wright does not credit him with any articles.

Thanks for the replies. The info helps. I have read just about every historical archery book I can find but this one just seems to stand out in particular. If anything else comes to light let me know please.

I always enjoyed Hodgkin's book. I need to reread it again soon. I like his style and think we are of equal minds in many ways.

There are more reprints out there then just the one already mentioned. My original copy formerly belonged to G.Malinoski, Pope&Young-Club founding member. Unfortunately the paper quality is not very good in this 1st Ed., pages show lots of browning.

I recommend it as reference for bow and arrow making.
