Beginning stages of my first remodel job ... having fun with it. I wanted a 66 Kodiak due to it being the first year Fred put a radius on the shelf but after I got it, I couldnt resist re-shaping it to my liking. More to follow with the finish and leather work.

Vincent,  Sure looks better than when she left the house.  Nice job.

Thanks Bill ... I am on the slope now but when I return, I want to hook up and check out that finish you suggested.

Finally got some finish on her .... now for some leather work. I tell you what, this really is a smooth drawing fine shooting bow. Cant tell much difference between this and some of my newer bows. Fred knew what he was doing that is for sure.

Does your '66 have different woods for the top and bottom caps?  I have one that is that way, they look just like yours.

No, its all the same, rose wood I believe.

I used a dremel tool with the sanding drum bit to rough it out and then a file to make the final shape. Leather work this week ... I work a remote schedule (one week remote away from home (900 miles north) and then one week off back at home)this kind of puts a damper on finishing projects in a timely manner. This bow shoots really well and now that the shelf has a nice radius on it the arrow release is butter smooth. I like the way it looks and it helps with a clean release. I want to aquire a super kodiak next and do the same thing to it. I think I am going to use a 59 style strike plate with bear hair rest to finish it off. Pics to follow.

Turned out real nice.  What did you use for the finish to match up with the old finish and how did you blend it in?

Upon Bowdoc's recomendation I used Birchwood Casey Tru-oil gun stock finish. I hand sanded and scraped off the old finish down to raw wood and just applied the finish with a clean cloth and blended it in and gave it about seven coats. I used a dremel tool to radius the shelf to my liking, glued some leather on and .... the rest is history. A fun project.
