You never stop learning in this sport.  Looks like some "almost" bows and a treasure for sure.

I love New York I really do !!!!!!

Finally! I've been after this beauty for quite awhile. It is a so nice to get it back together with the rest of the one of a kind EXPerimental and prototype bows that Bill Stewart created for Bear during the 60's. It has been quoted that this design was banned from his sight and use at Bear in quite a powerful way by Fred Bear as soon as he layed eyes on it.          Special thanks to Ted at Raptor Archery for taking great care of this bow and agreeing on a nice trade

Incredible thread. Glad to see this collection in good hands!

Hit-or-Miss

IMHO, this story / "history" should be either written up and put into a hardcover book, or into a multi-part series in TBM. This is very interesting and the facts and photos deserve to be in full color ink for future generations. Nothing against this site, but the virtual world is no place for the story and photos of this treasure trove of one of a kind bows!

None of us will be around in a 100 years, and this "online world", or at least this thread, may or may not exist either. Please consider documenting this story and pics for the bow collectors / shooters of the future!

How have I missed this thread up until now???

Wonderful info and pics of some of the neatest and rarest Bear collectibles in my opinion.  I've spent most of the morning with this interesting thread.

If not for Bill Stewart, Fred Bear may be occupying a lesser place in archery history.

Those are amazing.  I'd love to have a #45 Super Kodiak.

Hit or Miss I could not agree more. The pictures are printed and preserved and all of the information I have is kind of organized. I have been in contact with a experienced writer and hope the story finds it's way to print of some kind soon.

Lon, let me know if you ever get down this way and have some extra time to see them in person.

The pics of another EXP Grizzly are done and  I'll get it posted up here in the next day or so. I've been busy taking pics and getting descriptions of all of the rest of the bows Stewart decided to save and put away with this collection. There's a few Bears, a few Wings and a massive Martin longbow all like new. They are all regular production, serial numbered, stunning examples of his designs from over the same years as the EXP's. They will be listed for sale very soon along with a few other very unique collectables that came with the collection.I am going to concentrate on the EXP/Prototype collection and hope these other bows will be find their proper homes in other collectors hands.

I received a PM from Greg (sticknstring+) about my '66 Kodiak with Brown Overlays. He told me to compare the serial number and writing style of the lettering to the serial numbering on his wavy limbed Tamerlanes. Sure enough I think he is on to something!!! Looks like it might be one of Stewarts experimental bows.

Just reading this thread.  EXCELLENT COLLECTION!  Why isn't this on display somewhere?  Bear Factory?  Cabelas? Pope and Young headquarters?

IS the huge collection for sale???  This is historical!  One of a kind!!!!

Thanks ahead of time.

Glad you brought it back up Brad.  I just saw it for the first time as well.

What a neat look into the minds of the artists at Bear back in the day!

That would certainly be my pleasure! I have been to Hood River many times where are you located?

I'm about 35 miles west of Portland. About an hours drive on a average day.
