I've been following the 1959 birthday thread and it got me thinking...

I would like to get a bow to hunt with made in the year I was born 1968.

I am a Michigan boy thru and thru, so I imagine it will end up being a Bear of some kind, but I would like to hear from you experts if you could pick ANY bow made in 1968 to have as your hunting heirloom, what would it be?

Any maker, any model, and why it is your pick.

Thanks for sharing your experience...  :notworthy:

I have to agree with Felix.the 1968 Super K would be tough to beat especially for looks.Being from Michigan you gotta go with the Bear.

1968 Bear Super Kodiak is the way to go,it may take a while but once you get it you won't be dissapointed. Good luck.

Steve you poor fellow do you know once you get the vintage bear bow you are looking for you will just keep buying them because 1 is not enough. I know I started last summer and have 4 in the house and looking for more.

Have fun

I am rather fond of late 60's Grizzly by Bear. The 62" length is handy and the price seems to stay down around $150 or less. Not as fancy as Kodiaks and Super K's but dang fine shooters.

Personally I don't find the '68 Super Kodiak all that great a shooter, but you are not going to find a more beautifyl bow whent he finish is clean.  The phenolic Riser with Rosewood caps is gorgeous and well worth te title "heirloom".

I have one that I bought from Papa Bear himself.  It replace my '64 Kodiak.  The SK never shot as good as the '64 Kodiak.

As far as Bear hunting bows from '68, you have the Kodiak Hunter, Super Kodiak, Grizzly, Tigercat, Kodiak Magnum, Super Kodiak, and others.  Finding a '68 model Bear bow won't be a problem.  You jut gotta determine which is right for you.  In my opinion, the '68 Kodiak Hutner is the only Kodiak Hunter I would have, and a better shooter than a Super K.

Just my thoughts.

Being from Michigan you would automatically think Bear Archery...however, ther e were several good bow brand  from Michigan.

The most important part of your hunting setup is the broadhead.  The rest is just the delivery system.

Jack,

I am open to any brand 1968 bow, tell me more...

Don't know a lot more about Michigan bows...Bear, Darton..there are those on here that can give you a real heads up about many Michigan bowers.

hit becomes  the problem with mosy brands of knowing what year a bow is.  Bear is a snap...if the first digit in the SN is an 8, it is a '68 model...case closed.  Not so with other brands.

A Howatt would be definitl worth having, and a Jack Howard would be the best, but figuring the year is gonna be a booger.  A '68 Jack Howard would be an original Gamemaster and would be hard to find.

In 1968 Bear Archery was at the top of their game. The Super K. was introduced in 67 1/2. The Super Mag 48 just before that. The Kodiak Mag and Kodiak Hunter priced within reach. A very hard line-up to beat. Then AND now ! You can't go wrong with a '68 Bear bow.

Steve I will bring something to archery tonight you might like to see.

Shaun

Steve, you might want to call Le Monte at the Footed Shaft. He often has bows of that vintage available or knows where they are. He also knows a lot about how various model shoot.

Kenny you da man this week bro.thats cool.bd

I was going to say that I thought Ken was shooting with Bear about '68 or something a few weeks ago at the club.  He is usually such a one bow guy that I'm sure he couldn't part with one.  :jumper:

Ken is  THE man!  But, he is  terrible about returning e-mails...

You collectors might be interested in the fact that last Saturday, while I was out goofing off turkey hunting, Ken was being named the 2009 Bowhunter of the Year by the Michigan Bowhunters.

Steve O

Oh, yeah, I should be there tonight.  May be a little late but I should be there...
