I have a few questions.  Pulled my fatheres old recurve out last month and started shooting it.  Everything was fine till last week when I heard cracking on drawing the bow.  Laminations seperated.  I was bummed to say the least.
It was a 56# 60" ad my draw length is about 30".  I was wondering if I could attribute it breaking because of a 30" draw length?  In any case, I was set on getting a new bow not to have to worry about it breaking and was looking at the Martin Hunter (62").  I like a one piece also.  Anyway I saw a '55 Kodiak on **** that was 64" and 55#'s .  I should be getting it on Monday.  I'm assuming that I would need a 60" Dacron string?  Also I was wondering what the reccomended brace height was for this bow?  My last question is - Am I chasing a dream thinking that I can get by frequently shooting this old bow, or should I just go and get a modern recurve for shooting?  I know that's a lot, but I'm re-addicted after a long traditional bow layoff.  THANKS

I shoot my 55 Kodiak quite often.  If it's sound, shoot it.

The bow on top is the bow that I thought was going to be a Kodiak.  I'll have tho get some pictures of it.  It has a serial Number of ME67 and is 64" and 55#.  More redish color glass than my kobiak and the limbs are a "semi recurve?".  No string grooves.  Polar or Cub, I'm not sure.  I would like to sell it.

Kinda thought it was bad...but ya never know.  My wife is thinking I'm realy crazy, I going through withdrawals without a bow.

The top bow is a '55 Polar.  Nice bows and that's a good weight.  Trade ya a '56 Kodiak (64" 50#)for it (Kodiak needs a little TLC)  

The problem with going by the marked length on the old 50's Bears is that they aren't necessarily correct or consistent.  The bow length can vary by almost an inch (same model, same year, same marked length).  At least the ones I've had.

It looks like any marks on it could be cleaned off, I faven't touched it yet.  The black manrks are from black tape that was wraped aroung it to hold a bow quiver
