I know it's still early to be thinking about this but, does anyone gig frogs with their bow?  Has anyone come up with a fork for arrows to gig with?

I do my gigging with a pole,, hate loosing arrows in the dark!

 

Rubber blunts work well for frogs. They don't bury in the mud near as deep either!

Scully's catalog carrys a frog gig arrow. I bought one several years ago and have never used it. It either has three or four prongs.

I have gone out at night and shot frogs with a regular harpoon arrow while using a light. Most of the shots of course blew right thru the frogs, but I still got'em. It works better than a gig mounted on a pole as you don't have to get in as close to the frogs.

I go giggin about every weekend during the summer months. Never done it with an arrow.

I just made my own points out of close hanger wire and 3/8" copper tubing.  Cut three 3" pieces of coat hanger, hammer one end flat and file it to a barbed pointed end and bend two of them slightly, file several notches around the non barbed endabout 1/2" from the end.  Next cut a 2" piece of copper tubing, place the three prongs about 3/4" in from one end with the two bent prongs on the outside and the straight one in the middle.  Hammer the end of the copper tubing flat pinching the prongs in place, then solder them in and your good to go.  
Having said this the ones that I made ended up very heavy and tended to just blow through the frog but they did hold him to the ground while I retrieved him and my arrow.  Good luck!

As a kid I shot frogs with just a target arrow, and have done the same just several years ago. The best way is to get in the water and wade the pond, creek, or whatever you're hunting in. If you don't have a buddy holding the light then you need to learn to hold the light at the same time you're shooting. (That's the tricky part.) Once you've made the shot it's time to move quickly to the frog. Even though you have pinned him to the bank, he'll try to get off the nock end of the arrow.

It's great sport, and if you shoot at close range, it's an efficent way to frog hunt. I prefer it to using a rifle or frog gig.

All good advice.  I think the rubber blunt is probably my best bet.
