Has anyone worked with baleen?  Particularly interested in what finish used to keep fibers from raising.  Thanks...Jeff

My non-bow making experience is it's far more brittle than you would imagine.

I was given some scraps from a baleen backed osage bow.  It is beautiful with dark green swirls, but seem to want to fray even when polished to 600 grit.  Just looking for the best finish to keep it intact.  I've made two knife handles with it.  One just baleen & other baleen osage laminated...hint kniferiver  :)

You can also try Ted Fry at Raptor archery. I  think I saw some in his shop once and he may be able to help you out.

Thanks for the ideas.  I'll give both an email.

might also try the St Charles, there was a few baleen backed bows in Glenns old museum, I'm sure Jay or Joe could help give some pointers to help ya out.
