Im thinking about purchasing a bow from a buddy who shoots 3 under. I shoot split finger...which as we all know is proper technique...:-)

Despite his poor shooting technique he is a great guy.

The question that I have is how will this effect arrow flight, and how much will it adversely effect my shooting?

I shot split for years until switching to 3 under about 1 1/2 years ago. I noticed no difference on any of my bows. I was able to leave my nock point the same on all of them.

In most cases, with the same person shooting the bow, if a nock height set for three under, assuming the arrow flight is good, it will work fine for shooting split finger. Each archer puts a different angle on the string when they draw, so a nock height set for one person may or may not work for another. On the majority of bows I have shot, a nock height of 5/8" to 3/4" above the shelf works best for three under, about a 1/8" less for split.

I do find that it changes switching to 3 under from split.  It's a little higher.

Bad arrow flight would indicate to me that there are more things going on.  That switch may make an arrow lean up or even lean down.  Providing of course that the set up was well tunned to start with.  When I shoot an overspined or underspined arrow my impact is left or right.  If it's just flying bad then there are other shooter issues going on.

It makes less difference than you'd think. I moved the nock-point up 1/8" on some of my bows.
