I have been shooting split fingr for over 10 yrs and never could group very well. Started shooting 3 under and now can see groups..lol Any advice for a new guy shooting 3 under??? Do you really need your bow tillered for it or does it matter???

i shoot 3 under.  split just feels wrong to me.  a bow tillered for 3 under is nice, but you can still use one not tiller for it. just tune it up and go. just think the nock point has to be  alittle higher

I like the feel of split more or maybe because it is a little more quiet but I shoot 3 under better so that is what I shoot. I would just keep it up, your groups can only get better.

Plug "3 under" or "three under" into the search function, and you will have days and days of reading.

When I first shot recurves (before compounds) I shot split finger. My second round with recurves I'm shooting 3-under. It is more comfortable for me.

Easykeeper

I'd rather shoot split since it's what I grew up doing and in some ways just feels right.  That said I shoot three under because I just plain shoot better that way, at least at hunting distances.

I shoot split for 15 years until this year. I have switched to 3under and man had it made a difference I can shoot 2-3 groups with no fliers at 25yards i could never do that split finger. It took a lot of practice to get used to but now its lights out on split for me. Oh and all my bows are tillered for split finger, I just played with the brace height to get them as quiet as possible.

I've been shooting 3 under for my 15 +/- years of trad, a carry over from compound days. I tried split fingers at one point some years ago and just couldn't get comfortable. I have acquired most of my bows 2nd hand and have never had a problem tuning any of them to shoot 3 under. It still requires a matched arrow and a good anchor. I prefer a low shelf, just above my grip and a high anchor, middle finger in the corner of my mouth so that I'm looking right down the arrow. Other than that,as always, develop consistant form and let fly.

Shot split since I started as a kid. Tried 3 under several times and couldnt get used to it.

Switched back earlier this year and now shooting split just looks weird. I shoot so much better now. I'm not looking back.

I shoot 3 under on all my bows even selfbows tillered split or 3 under it does not matter . Just tune you arrows and you will be ok .

No your bow doesn't need to be tillierd for 3 under but it does make them more quiet.Im the same way just didn't feel right shooting split and as soon as i switched my groups tightened up big time.

All my recurves are whisper quiet .I have shot 3-under since1982, no regrets! but yes all my Bows are tillered even.

Onehair

If I could get my bows "whisper quiet", I would shoot 3-under. I do shoot better that was but after a couple days I switch back . The noise drive me nuts. What's the secret ?

razorsharptokill

I think that the added noise is annoying but to me I feel that accuracy is more important than noise as the deer can jump the string anyway. With some work the bow can be quieted some more.

I'm shooting better than I ever have.

It's all in the string, the length and the loops have to be perfect in size and length. My string maker is awesome. That simple.

I shoot 3 under. Have some bows tillered for 3 under, some split. They all shoot great.
Having done so much, with so little, for so long, I can now do anything with nothing.

redant 60/65

I switch to three under 5 months ago, my groups are more consistent and my 3-D scores have come up a bunch. It took a little time to get use to but now I can't imagine going back to split finger, wish I would of switched 25 years ago.
I'm with every one else on the tillering just need to do some fine tuning and your good to go. And I really do think the string does make a huge difference on nose.

I have been shooting three under for about two weeks now after shooting split for 32 years. I tried split last night and it felt real strange. Only reason I tried it was because the last bow I bought is tillered three under. Must have been in the cards. Can't imagine ever shooting split again of course three weeks ago i could never imagine shooting three under.
