I recently started cutting my nose with the nock.  Am I overdrawing?  I shoot better than ever but every 10 shots or so I catch my nose.  I file down the nock to get rid of any sharps but the ones that hit my nose impact low.

First, are you sure it's your nock and not your string? Second, if you're doing it only 10% of the time, that indicates that something is slipping in your form 10% of the time. You might try some close up, blank bale work with your eyes closed, focusing on your anchor point to see if you can determine what you're doing differently when you hit your nose. Another possibility is the use of a vidcam or a knowledgeable observer to help you detect the "occasional" break down in your form.

I've had similar types of episodes, and it almost always had to do with a slight change in my anchor point, and/or, a difference in the way I held my head.

I think Wapiti is on the right trail, most here will tell you to look more towards the target.

I am thinking every 10 shots or so you are really getting into it and your nose gets in the way.

For me I rip out an occassional moustache hair..... (that will straighten you out)

Could be the string.  I havent had anywhere to shoot the blank bale for a while but I have a 5 day break from work and am going home this weekend where I can work on this.  Thanks for the input

Oops, I have a "split finger" mentality. If you're shooting "three under", it could very well be the nock; but the suggestions for correcting remain the same.  Often, it's nothing more than a very slight tilt of the head that can get us in trouble.

Have Fun!

I used to do that and I now hold my head (jaw) against the shoulder of my right arm (I shot left handed) as a part of my shooting routine to encourage consistancy and get my nose out of the way.  hope that helps

Hi,

I occasionaly have the same problem with nock point cutting the tip of my nose - by any chance do you shoot left when it happens (if your right handed)?

It tends to happen at the end of practise sessions -  I'm hunching my back and putting head to string.
I staighten up, keep my head vertical and it goes for me. I know when I'm doing it both by the blood and discomfort and to a lesser extent when my arrows start going left and slightly low from my point of aim.

Cheers

They hit low but not left.  I Have been concentrating on gettig my head turned more but still drift a little when I get tired.  Going to the bale in the morning to try to rid my problem.
