I tried vertical with a recurve and shot horribly.  Went back to my longbow which I automatically canted,  and shot much better.  Still have to wear a beanie as a cap gets in the way!

Here ya go.  I can't shoot with it even in the position photo'd without turning it.

Day One Camo makes the hat I wear.  Flexible brim, boonieish.  Does not get in the way of the string where ever positioned on my head.  AND with the brim low I can cover the games eyes with it and they can't see my eyes.

I cant my bow and I still hit the brim of my hat, I'm fat headed I guess(ask my wife). I wear a floppy brim leafy hat in the summer when its hot and a wool fedora in the fall when its cooler. My string hits the brim of the fedora but its so soft it doesn't effect my shooting at all.

I wear a lot of fedoras. Not all the time for archery, though a lot recently with the cold weather. I shoot vertical for the most part. I cant only at close distances 25 yards or less. The trick is to get a good quality thin beaver fur hat that is at least 4 or 5 X 10 X would be the cats pajamas. Those hats are egg shell thin. They almost decieve you how something can be that thin but have no problems. When the string hits the brim it just pushes it down. I have thicker fedoras and the string moves the entire hat if it hits the brim so those I do not shoot with. Taking a longer draw can be a prob too. If I were to draw well past my cheek well then the brim would push far down and impare vision. Having the brim shaped so it slopes down helps too, though I can't imagine a fedora without a sloped brim.

I allways shoot vertical, and just but the bill of my hat angled up higher kinda on the back of my head, or just cock it to the side.

The longer the bow is the shorter the hat brim has to be. I can get away with a boonie for a 60 inch bow but have to use a bucket type for a 68 inch bow.

I've always canted, but I'm really working at shooting more vertical. I figure it is a little more reproduceable which ,I hope, will translate into consistency.
