I am able to shoot in the garage at a long distance of 6-7 yards.  I am aming at a black dot on a yellow bag target.  The dot is the size of a quarter.  If I keep it within of 2 inches is this good or not?  Also, I am hitting high and to the left is there any cure for this other than practice?  I am right handed.  I am about 2 inches high and an inch left.

Do you cant your bow? If so,it sounds like your arrows are to stiff, might try adding more point weight & see if that helps.

I wouldn't worry about the 2 inches high at this point.  As you shoot the bow outside at more realistic distances, you will either adjust to the trajectory of your bow, or if not there are ways to adjust your point of impact up or down.

Other than a stiff arrow, form problems that could cause a left miss include shooting with a stiff bow arm, or not relaxing your string hand and forearm.

One constructive thing you could do while shooting at the close distances indoors is to begin to tune your arrows, if you have not already done so.

Hi Wi. teacher, I live in Appleton. I have 4 VHS tapes Paul Brunner, Scott Antzak?, Byron Ferguson, and Fred Asbell. If you would like to borrow them they might help you understand what others teach and pick up some good habits with a little more understanding of what's going on and what you can do. These helped me and my learning curve tremendously! E-mail me at stoneartist777@sbcglobal.net to talk a little more. Wisconsin Traditional Archers events are good fun, and great guys if that would interest you. Bowhttp://www.wistradarchers.com/

When I bare shafted my arrows, they were sticking straight out of the bag target.  I do cant my bow.  I will try to relax my string hand a little.

McDave

One test I have found useful in determining whether my string hand/forearm is relaxed is to ungrip the bow with my bow hand at full draw so the bow is just resting in the vee between my thumb and forefinger.  If the bow wants to move to some other position, more vertical, for example, it means my string hand is not relaxed and is trying to control the bow.

At first, I misinterpreted this test and just let my string hand dictate the angle of the bow.  My shooting improved some when I did that, but it is a blind alley.  Your shooting will improve more if you work on relaxing your string hand so it automatically adjusts to whatever cant your bow hand puts the bow at.

I had the same problem with my arrows grouping high and left. My problem was with form, a very slight movement of the bow arm will cause that problem.

Keep working on the form. Eventually, once form can be repeated I suspect you'll be able to keep a 3 shot group inside a 1 inch diameter.
Most guys don't do a lot of practice at close range.

My son-in-law and I used to do tournaments at 5 yards betting each other a dollar a shot. (Never got paid)
Paul had little experience with a recurve and in a short time was making it quite a challenge.

Well I got to shoot last night.  I worked on relaxing my string hand, pulling through the shot, and bending my bow arm.  My last two shoots hit the quarter size spot at 6 yards.
