Possum2,

No.  You can move the nock point up for 3 under or down for split fingers and the bow will shoot fine either way.

I tried off and on over the past 8 years to shoot 3 under and just couldn't get comfortable with it.  Then I got the first two Rick Welch vidoes and recently the the 3rd video and now it's 3 under for me. I've used it for recurves ranging from56" to 66" AMO and various lengths of longbows as well.

Split finger since the 1970's but I am looking at 3 under.

Three under. I'm kind of surprised at how close the numbers were. I would have figured split would outdistance three under by more. I have shot both, but my crooked index finger gets worn out when I shoot split. I also seem to shoot better three under. It is a bit louder, but the critters don't seem to mind.

3 under. Started split but with 3 under I had less errors, was more comfterable, and actually gave me BETTER control over the arrow (counterintuitive right?)

Split for the past 20 years. Never tried 3 under, but may in the near future just to see which works best for me.

Both, depending on the bow. In general three-under with recurves and split with longbows. I try both ways while tuning and see what the bow likes.

Was shooting 3 under this winter to give it a real chance. Went back to split just felt more natural to me I felt like my anchor was cramped at full draw with 3under.

Split. Tried 3 under, but I must say, it's not my cup of tea.

Hard for me to believe that that many people shoot 3 under. I've tried it a couple of times, and just didn't like the feeling that I had lost some control. It's also hard for me to believe that just raising the nocking point makes it OK. If the bow's not tillered for it, it has to throw things out of balance.

If you do raise your nocking point, I would think that it would be wise to raise the shelf a bit to compensate, so that your arrow doesn't "run downhill" to the shelf and introduce another force vector to the arrow. The closer you can get to horizontal and clear the shelf, the better for performance. This is just theory for me, but it's based on a lot of trial-and-error archery.   :)  I do know it's a fact that a too-high nocking point robs energy from the arrow. I avoid anything that does that. I want every pound I pull to go into the arrow.

After shooting for nearly 50 years, I've found that if I try to change my style, I tend to revert under stress (DEER IN FRONT!!). It's best for me to stick with my long-term habits. Make that, GOOD habits.

Cannot seem to shoot 3 under.  Farted with it a couple days.  Split only from now on.

Split since I was a boy in 1956.  Everytime I try 3 under the arrow dives low and left.  Discliamer....I shot 3 under in the late 60s/early 70s string walking bare bow target archery and was quite good at it.

Well I need to vote again.  I started split and could not get it right.  I trie 3 under and it seems to be working.  I am not shooting the pic nic table anymore.  Of course still pretty new.
