I've been trying G. Fred's method of facing the target dead on rather than blading of with the bow arm/shoulder toward the target.   Thought I would share the results...

The feet stay pointed at the target as the archer twists at the waist slighty to come to full draw.  When doing this, the knees naturally move slightly out of line with the feet.  My head/eyes stay straight & on the target, rather than my face slightly away as I do when shooting with my weak side toward the target.

It feels a little odd at first, but I found almost instantaneous improvement in my accuracy.  I think this is because both eyes are looking at the target square which gives better depth perception and windage feel. because my face pretty much faces the target through the entire shot, wth this method, I rarely string ding my nose/lip anymore....

In his shooting video he sort of quarters away in an open stance with his left foot pointing sort of toward the target and the right foot facing to the right.  That video was made in 1993 I think.  Has he changed his method?

I took his method from an article he wrote in the Jan 2009 issue of TBH. Page 59...

I've shot similar to this for years. opened up towards target more like he suggested and wow it really improved accuracy. very comfortable too. can shoot longer cause back is working more than arms.

I shoot the same way, have for the last year. Improved my accuracy more than any  other single element. I had a problem with alighnment up until,.. now as I draw, the rotation of my shoulders/torso, pulls my drawing elbow back, and my drawing hand tight against my face as I come to anchore.Sure is easy to use in a stand too...

I read that article and if I remember right when drawing facing the target it makes your body utilize your back muscles more.  It was okward at first, but with practice it feels natural now.

Where can I get this TBH issue?

Mike Fedora of Fedora's Custom Bows shoots like this and has been teaching this style for years.  One way he practices it with his students is to have them stalk up on a 3d target and then has them stop and shoot at an unknown distance. It also helps greatly with opening up the stance and causing less string contact to clothing.

Thanks to you guys' suggestions I tried it last night.  You're right, it's a little weird at first, but soon starts to feel fairly natural.  The big surprise for me was that at short range, 10 to 15 yards, it seemed to be about six of one, half a dozen of the other as to accuracy, but the farther back I moved the better the G. Fred method worked.  By 30 yards it was clearly the better of the two methods.
