Is there a resource to study the score zone on 3D targets? I know this would only help if one is able to hit the place they are looking at, but is there a web site or something?

Steve, if you practice shooting the kill zones on 3-D animals, you'll find you are shooting real animals in the wrong places!  The kill zones really don't reflect the best place to put arrows in real critters.

I use binocs - both for 3d and hunting.
I shoot a 3d animal the same as I shoot a real one in that I pick a spot I want to hit.
With a real animal, the spot is based on hitting the center of the kill zone depending on angle.
On a 3d target, my spot is the center of the x ring. At the end of the round, I have a real record of how well I did hitting my aiming point.

In otherwords, every shot, 3d or animal, is a new shot that I am picking a spot on. In no way should shooting for x's on a 3d target make you ever shoot a real animal in the wrong place.

Besides, there is no way to have any marked kill zone on a 3d be reflective of real kill zones unless the targets are placed at an exact angle every time.

You pretty much have to learn them , in trad shooting binocs arent allowed in most tournements in the south...

3D is fun. I've only done a couple, but they are both rewarding and humbling...hahahah..

A few times I notieced, I made an outstanding shot only to get a score less than perfect. One shot I made was a perfect "Kill Shot" the spot I was looking at. I was confident it was a 10, it wound up a 5.... Oh well, I have the satisfaction that I nailed him!!!

A general rule is straight up from the back side of the front leg.

Yep, if you go up that front leg you will be in the 10 ring on most 3-D critters.

To answer your original question, I believe you can order illustrated cards from the different 3-D target manufacturers that show the "vital zones" on their respective targets.  I've seen the wheelie shooters carrying them around during their matches.

Most shoots around me allow binocs. Its really unfair for competiton if you dont since the locals will know the kill zones on there specific clubs targets and a new person may not. There are so many brands of targets and each has a different kill zone that its going to be very hard to memorize them all.

I simply cannot comprehend why binos are banned at almost every shoot in my area. A guy deserves to know what he's trying to hit.  

I can't count the times that I or fellow shooters have made a perfectly executed shot, only to find that that the 10 was in a different place than on the brand of target we were used to.

In the attempt to get away from things we associate with compound shooters, we have gotten away from common sense, IMHO.

You could try and find a Delta McKenzie target card.  I shoot a lot af 3D up here and carry one.  However most cards I have seen do not carry all types of targets even made by the same manufacturer.  That and most clubs targets are usually made up of mixed manufacturers.  Some of my buddies have searched out pictues with visible target rings printed them off and lamenated them.
