When you hit the 3-D range, what's a good score for you? Lets say the targets are 30 yards and less, first arrow counts, no do overs. Honest score.

If the perfect score is 300 I'm shootin about 180-200.... Check out  www.dixiebowmen.org  they post the scores from there traditional shoots there.  It'll give you a good Idea of what folks really shoot.

8's or better average - with hunting equipment.

9's if tweaked more for target.

If I finish the course with the same amount of arrows I started with, I consider that a good score.    Seriously, I think an average of 8 points per target would be a very good score for me.

Out of the 240 and 250 scores how many of those gap shoot and how many instinctive? (Not lQQking to hijack or a discussion that noone can shoot instinctively.)

our local trad shoots are NO gap shooting I shoot subconcious aiming ..out of 50 3d's the best was a 419..I shot a 370 and had missed 4, all were unknown distances and I did loose 1  hahahaha

I, shoot instinctive, and avreage 220 - 230 on a good day, and 200 - 220 sometimes less, on a NOT so good day with my hunting setup.  Been at it for 37 years now.

Any time I'm better than the time before I'm happy.My first time was about 140. Now I'm not happy with anything under 250.

Longstick,...How do you know if someone is gap shooting? What is the possible score where you shoot? Personally I think a club saying no gap shooting is like saying,"you can shoot with us as long as you don't do anything that causes you to shoot better than we do." No offence intended.

How do you know they are gap shooting.?

On a 3d course, I consider it a good round if have 6 of the 8 arrows I started with, if at least once we have a good fall down laugh about something, if the conversation while we wait for the target to clear is cordial and fun, and if no one gets frustrated or depressed while going through the round.  I like the shoot till you drop and no one keeps score shoots.

I shoot the same method hunting as 3d.

I too am interested in how a club enforces "no gap".

Well I was just wondering. I've shot in the 250's but mostly shoot 210 to 240. I run into guys that say they shoot 250 and better but when I see them at a target they are behind it looking for an arrow. Must be someone elses they are trying to find. Whatever. Also, it seems to me the "X" is a bit higher on all targets then I would shoot for on an animal for the perfect kill. I like a low shot on game because the heavy bones are a little high but 3-D is just a game after all

I might add that I shoot a straight long bow, 60#'s, wood arrows and off the shelf for what it's worth

I would guess I average 200. My goal is to bring it up to 240. Last year was my first year of more than 2 shoots. I got alot more comfortable. I always seem to have a mental lapse and miss a target or two then get on a run of 5's. I did have one round with no misses! I was great!

We shoot 20 targets, two shots each target from different stakes at our regular monthly shoots. Recurve, longbow and primitive divisions. Most of our shots are shot thru brush and vines or some other hard setup.At todays shoot there was a 300 shot with primitive and a 383 shot with recurve. Very good scores. Personally I shot an 257 in longbow and was satisfied with it.

With 10,8,5 scoring it takes an average of over 9 pts per target to win or place high, here in the south.

I shot a 234 out of 300 today at the Traditional Bowhunters Of Arkansas shoot today.  Thats an average of 7.8 per arrow.  I was not able to stick around for the results to be posted so I don't know where I placed. Last year in the state championship trad shoot I shot 380 out of 500 for an average of 7.6 pts per shot. Last year I placed 15th out of about 35. So in my estimation 7.5-7.8 pts per shot is about middle of the pack.
