I'm afraid I may have pulled a tendon in my ring finger shooting my recurves. I'm not sure what happened, but the finger just hurts between the 1st and 2nd joint. The

I want to continue shooting so I fashioned a leather thumb ring and will try a mongolian release until my finger heals.

I shoot a Ben Pearson Mustang 65# and a Martin Hunter 75#. these are not trad for thumb ring shooting, but all recurves are sort of Asiatic, right?

Is this project a disaster waiting to happen? Has anyone sustained a similar injury? Hopefully some of you have some experience with this.

This happend to me as well. I stoped shooting for a month 1/2. then drop wieght to 50 instead of 60. I have been shooting for a month and all is well.
"instinctive archery" is more like playing the violin. Without practice you may remember the mechanics, but you will not be a virtuoso.

If it Persists with the Pain, Ya Might Show Yer M.D., just to be safe. Advil and some Ice On The Finger Cant Hurt either. Right? Take Care!!      :archer:

If you are going to try a thumb draw drop down to about #40 first.Thumb draw takes some getting used to and if you are over bowed you will not get anywhere.
Oh yeah also remember to shoot from the "off" side of the bow.

habs,

You'll need a bow that designed for the other hand. In other words, if you are shooting lefty, you'll need a righty bow because the arrow goes on the other side if you are using a thumb release! Now you mentioned 'Mongolian draw'. The Mongolians are one of the very few Asian thumb draw archers that used the 'normal' side of the bow. I've been shooting with the thumb draw (ring and leather tab) now for a few years and cannot figure out how to use it from the 'normal' side of the bow. I do know a guy who does. He goes by 'Bustedarrow' on the *********** and the ATARN (Asian Traditional Archery Research Network). He might be hear on Tradgang too. PM him. He's a great guy!
