Shopping for a topo map , need one for Sam Houston national forest in Texas. Who makes the best map for use with a compass. Thanks

Onxhunt maps are a great resource for gps units.  Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and US Forest Service are good sources for paper maps for use with compass.

I use USFS maps.  I'll also use screen shots from Google Earth/ maps when I head to spots with little to no cell service.

Try caltopo.com. The free version lets you make 8.5x11 sized PDFs which you can then print. If you pay for the service, you can print bigger. I forget the prices.
