The Wisconsin bear season opens here in northern Wisconsin tomorrow for bait sitters. It opened a week earlier for the hound hunters. I have a bait on public land that has several bears, including a nice one, showing up during daylight hours, so I will probably target that stand for my first sit. Here are a few pix taken of that bigger bear. The timeline is 12 hours off. My other bait has been hit by smaller bears and a really nice boar, mostly at night. I'm starting to get excited.

Good luck, that is a good bear. In my experience that crease in his head has always been a good indicator of a good bear.

David, I sat from 2 p.m. until nearly dark. Saw a bear shortly before I climbed down but it turned and walked away at about 50 yards. It was dead calm at the time so don't know what went wrong. Will try again this afternoon.

Hey, Mike! I appreciate your offer and will certainly take you up on it when the time comes. Here is a pic of the largest bear coming into one of my baits.

The only predictable thing about hunting bears over bait is that is that the bears are unpredictable. I have had "teenage" bears show up while I've been on stand as well as a sow and two cubs. No big boys yet. I've got 20 more days to hunt bears and may even start up a new bait or two.
