Simple question. What is the difference between the originals and the newer Elites?

Been wondering myself. Heard it was ease of sharpening, if so, I need the Elites. I really struggle getting the originals sharp. I end up with at least an hour in each one. After that, just a touchup.

Originals have the blades welded to the ferell, Elites are machined from one piece of steel.

Butch hit the nail on the head. I have never had trouble sharping either with a jewel stick.
