So I'm trying to work out a good arrow tune and finally built myself a good blank bale. 6 bales of straw, stacked up on some skids to get airflow under them, I have them tarped and 2 ratchet straps to hold them together. I'm running into issues of my arrows just blowing through this and it feels like something is wrong and counter productive. I'm shooting a 55@28" praire predator I draw almost 29" after expansion.... shooting about 600 grains of arrow with 24% FOC. Any ideas gang?

I put a second set of bales 6 feet behind usually shoot through first set and retrieve the arrows from the second set piece of plywood over top of each set lasts long time

how about hanging carpet behind target to stop arrow and put 1/2 built rite as a target face. That should help

Carpet is a great idea as northener pointed out. 5  
to 6 layers of it alone make a nice bale.

I've been shooting at the same box of old clothing in my garage for more than 20 years and haven't shot through it yet. A burlap, old pillow case, or similar type bag of rags hung on the back of your bales should stop your arrows as well as my backstop has.

Compressed bales from tractor supply. They are around $12ea and you will not shoot them, i put one on top of a straw bale and strap it to the skid seems to be a good height. Forgot to tarp it one night when we got a lot of rain now i have grass growing on top:)

I suspend a section of rubber conveyor belt behind my bales of straw.

You can try blunt points instead of field points. And if you are shooting a really heavy point, you can use steel adapters glued into Hammers or other similar small game blunt points.

I went to Tractor Supply and got a horse stall mat to use as a backdrop. It works well. Arrows very seldom stick into it.
