Looking for a setup where i can stabilize longer pieces of wood to make limbs as well as riser. Saw some commercial kits but only 17.5" heights? anybody thoughts or suggestions?  or who you like to buy from?  thanks for any help.  joey buchanan

Joe are you talking like a pressure/vacuum chamber for impregnating resin into wood?  Most I've heard of have been homemade with the main body either made from heavy duty large PVC or a repurposed vessel like an old autoclave or sandblasting tank etc.  Pretty much your engineering imagination can run wild. Make sure to install gauges. Just be safe working with pressurized vessels so you don't end up with a bomb LOL.

My pressure chamber was 41 " long by 6" wide before I tipped it over and broke 4" off the top . I just use it for handle material now . When you first start your vacuum the resin foams up you need a clear pipe so you can regulate this foaming for about 5 min. or your resin will go very quickly I into your vacuum pump .The pvc needs to be very thick theres a lot of pressure built up in the the pipe regular pvc might be not strong enough.

Joe,  Not trying to derail your thread but I am curious as to why you would want to stabilize limb wood?

joebuck

It-m-grow...No derail at all!!  Good question!  I thought some veneers i admired were Stabilized but it turns out they arent!!  Which is good for me because now i can buy a shorter tube!

Anyone had any experience in stabilizing riser wood with Cactus Juice?

Thanks guys for the advice and input.

Crooked Stik over on the bowyers bench has been using cactus juice for a while. I think he make his own vacuum unit.
