Looking for a reputable flying service in Alaska to fly us out and drop us off for caribou. We've been to Alaska many times and have not done good for caribou, sometimes hunting 11 days and never seeing a caribou.  Anyone had a flying service that has done them right?

Surprised to see you asking. You know more about hunting Alaska then most anyone on here.

Do you have a herd you are targeting. There are a few good air taxi guys out of Happy Valley for the Central Arctic herd.

This is a dream hunt of mine and Tracey's I will be watching this one. I do keep hearing about the Alaskan hurd decreasing numbers

How about 40 Mile air out of Tok?? That is my suggestion. Why don't you try and narrow the hunt down to which one or two of 32 herds in Alaska and then look for transporters in the herds area? The question is vague.

I'm with John.  40 mile has treated us great for years on our moose hunts.

I have talked to 40mile air and they were very helpful

40 Mile Air in Tok is reputable as is Brooks Range Aviation in Bettles for interior hunts. Kotzebue is close to good hunting for Caribou in the Kobuk valley and in my opinion the most beautiful place in Alaska.  Quite a few outfitters operating out of PAOT including Alaska Airlines that'll take you to kotz on daily flights. Good luck.

Just be aware that the Alaska Fish and Game has changed the season dates in GMU 26B and the bag limit for non residents and residents. As of July 1, 20017 the season starts on August 1 and ends on September 15 for non resident. The bag limit for non residents is one caribou bull. The season used to start on July 1.

Thank you for the replies.  We have hunted Alaska 14 times and had have hardly zero luck on caribou. We hunted the 40 mile herd and saw zero caribou in the entire 11 days. The arctic herd is down 69% and last time we flew out of Kotzebue we had to fly 200 miles north and we froze. Even the flowing rivers were freezing and we saw 0 caribou the last 12 days of the hunt. I checked out some of our previous flying services out of Iliamna and King Salmon and they say no non-resident hunters. Hard to believe but maybe we should go back moose hunting because it sure seems a lot more productive.

Believe me its not.

Another good one is Silvertip Aviation (907) 676-0421. They work in different parts of the State but for caribou it is primarily in the Brooks Range. The fully guided part of their operation is called Ovis Outfitters. And tell 'em I sent ya.

Yes, I know it hard to believe but here are our stats...
4 moose hunts= 3 moose
13 caribou hunts= 1 caribou

I guess we just have a good moose spot.
