Guys I'm going on a Bison hunt and need your advise on type of Brodhead to use, I have 3 blade VPAs and Simmons Tiger sharks, wich one would you use?   Also is my set up able to take game that big? I'm shooting a 52 pound at my draw Palmer recurve and 525 grain Easton traditional arrows. Thanks for any advise, God Bless

You should be fine, a long narrow 2 blade wouldn't hurt though.

I used an ACE super Express on a maple arrow to kill mine. Hit him in the heart from 25 yards. Dead in 20 seconds. I would go with a two blade. I was shooting a 63# Robertson recurve.

Shot mine with a Grizzly two blade total penetration with a 50 pound longbow and carbon arrow at 600 gr.

Mine was a yearling so not as big.

I do use tuffheads for moose though.

My suggestion would be the Tiger Shark due to being a 2 blade.

I use the Tiger Shark and have taken deer and the wound channel is impressive to say the least.

But for a Buffalo I may change it and use a Grizzly 2 blade or the 2 blade from RMS.

Those who have actually done it have spoken so go with the experts!

Get a grizzly 2 blade, single or double bevel.  Bow weight sounds good, but I'd up arrow weight myself...but I have zero experience with bison.

I used a longbow, 57# at my 28" draw with a 620 grain carbon arrow. The broad head was a 160 grain Magnus 2 blade. I took a 900 lb cow. Your set-up should work with a good 2-blade head, though I would prefer a little more arrow weight.

No chance I personally would use any 3 blade on that hide....
I'm with Phillip, #5 would sure help....if that's not possible then I would go with a cut on contact BH  such as Tuffhead, Grizzly or VPA
Big fan of 3 blade VPAs on thin skinned animals though

The first time I had a chance to shoot a buffalo, i couldn't do it, domestic (sort of).  The second time they told me I could have the prime ribs if I helped them with the skinning and boning, besides this one had an attitude problem, they couldn't catch it.  I used a 64@26 plus Schulz Legend, a 2018 with an original Grizzly 160 head.  Pass through.  Bled out real fast on the far end still in the large pasture about 150 yards.

I killed mine with a two blade Eclipse single bevel and a 600 grain Carbon Express 250.  Double lung- watched him drop...

Hey, Primo

Where are you going? I know you didn't mention this bh but I'm a big fan of Grizzly's and wouldn't use anything else. I would not use the 3blade. Just my opinion never killed a buffalo.

Good luck

Give Bill Dunn a quick call. Not only can he talk to you about a perfect grizzly broadhead set up.. but he's taken a bison before also.

Of the two mentioned I would pick the two blade, and I wouldn't hesitate to use the Tiger Shark on Bison, which has a different rib structure than Asiatic and Cape Buffalo.

VPA are my favorite heads!! VPA makes two blade heads with lots of weight options. Have fun on your hunt!!
