June 30 - July 1-2, will be the first ever Montana Selfbow Jamboree!
The event will be held at Bill Owens farm, 2700 Logan/Trident Rd. just off I-90 near Threeforks, Montana. There are going to be a bunch of folks coming from the Oklahoma/Kansas area bringing osage, and lots of knowledge to help folks learn how to build a selfbow. Also, I have it on good word that a bunch from the Washington/Oregon area are going to do their best to make it also, with knowledge, and bow woods from the west coast!  There are going to be some of the best Montana bowyer's at the event also!
This is a great opportunity, to make a selfbow,  pick up some great bow wood, and hang out with a really great group of good folks!
Thanks,
Tim

Will there be bow building classes for novices? Would love to learn how to make one.

Yes, there is bow building instruction for any novices that want to make a selfbow.  You will be teamed up with somebody who experienced, and successful, making selfbows.  The folks from Oklahoma teach over a hundred people each year and are generously donating their time to help us put this initial event on.  The cost of instruction is $30, which includes a membership in the Traditional Bowhunters of Montana.  The TBM is providing financial support for the event.  Limited tools are available for use, bring a drawknife, file, and scrapper if you have them.  Osage and Yew staves will be available for purchase from vendors and some instructors.  Look up the Montana Selfbow Jamboree on Facebook for more information.  I will post a copy of the flyer on the Trad Events forum later this evening.
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

Here is the flyer.   This is really the first event of this kind in our neck of the woods.   It promises to be a fun one!

I might be able to make it. It will be a bit of a drive but I think I can handle the 10 minute drive. Always wanted to learn how to make a selfbow.

Can anyone tell me if I can park my 36 foot trailer and how much does it cost?

Blake,
There is plenty of primitive parking, no hook-ups for electricity, water, or sewer.  Water is available at the registration/barn area via a garden hose.  There will be porta-potty's and a dumpster for trash on-site.  Fires will be limited to the horse training/lunging area.  The town of Three Forks is a ten minute drive and has most everything one needs, including camping, restaurants, groceries, Ect....  Bozeman is a 25 minute drive.

Really looking forward to this. Plan on heading over Thursday, staying over somewhere close and showing up Friday morning. Been pestering Jim Rempp for years to teach me but it never worked out. It would be awesome to shoot something with a bow I made.

I would really like to make it to this event, but I think it's just a bit to far for me. Maybe I'll get lucky and someone passing through can scoop me up.lol

Have fun guys. I wish I could be there. It will be pretty cool saying you were there from the beginning
