I've been applying for an elk permit in ND for a very long time- maybe twenty years with no luck. Until today. I just got an email telling me I was successful! Here in ND it is a once in a lifetime draw.

Very excited about this.

Are elk in any particular area of ND or widespread?
I didn't realize ND even had them.

Elk are found in pretty specific areas of ND.  There are good numbers in the far western part of ND, around Teddy Roosevelt National Park.

Another zone for elk is in the Northeastern part of the state. I will be hunting around the Pembina Gorge area.

The dilemma for people hunting the Gorge area is it is nearly all private land. Fortunately I have a couple of connections that I am hoping will work out.

This year there were 389 available elk licenses in the lottery and I think some of those are gratis permits for landowners.
