Well, I actually bought four acres, but my back and side fences are literally the state/Corps fence on Waurika Lake. Waiting to finish the closing process. So it looks like I'll be learning how to hunt public lands in a trial by fire.
I've identified several areas that look like they are isolated for easily walking in or are in areas most hunters are going to overlook.
I can't wait!!!

Several of the places I've been looking at are really only accessible from the water so my 16' 1950's Grumman Aircraft canoe will be getting a workout. I took it out a couple times last season but didn't have any luck.
Thanks guys.

Man that sounds like a good setup! I love water access, it eliminates a bunch of the competition
Enjoy the new place!

An excellent purchase.  As a WMA manager I've lived on several large public hunting tracts during my life. Great backyards.  Hopefully, your spot isn't too close to a lot of public access?

Awesome!! One day I hope to be able to buy a few acres, and I'll be looking for a little tract that borders public land too. Congrats!!

Actually there is a public access spot on each side of the road about 200yds down the road. But there are a fair amount of trees in between to block out the noise.

Some really skinny areas of public lands, many of which back up to private wheat fields.

Definitely not! Was it you or one of the boys at Tolke that posted up in one of the game camera thread a pic with the GPS coordinates and had to go back and edit it?
Besides, I'm not good enough to have someone hurt my hunting, it's usually the other way around.    :biglaugh:

Nice! I've been doing most of my hunting on public lands, sometimes finding a killer spot is like finding a needle in a haystack but the needles are there!

...I recently heard that the wildlife department did a poll and found a 6% archery success rate on public land in Oklahoma! That makes me feel pretty good (pats self on back)

I've been living that dream for close to 30 years in Ohio.  We have a little cabin with 35 acres that backs up to 16000 acres of state land.  When folks tell you to picture your happy place I'm sitting on that porch surrounded by wilderness.
