I recently made up my first batch of wood arrows fletched with feathers. Shot them today and after about 50 arrows and noticed the outside edge of the seal skin on the shelf is wearing off. I have the feathers placed right with cock feather out. I also am not seeing any real erratic arrow flight. I bareshaft tuned them and they fly good. Just wondering if this might be a problem with the nock point? I would think the arrow flight would be bad if this was the case. Maybe this is normal...?

Could be plucking the string a bit and causing the arrow to kick a bit at release. Some wear is normal but should not be much after 50 arrows. Shawn

Play with the nocking point. Maybe a tad higher.

I think you guys both have a point. I did notice sometimes I was plucking the string with the new deep grip I am using.  Tonight I will mess with bringing up the nock point and see how things go.  Thanks, David

I have had Seal skin on my longbow for 8 months now & still don't nottice any appreciable wear. Could your cock feather be just a bit too far down? Frank

If it is wearing off on the outside edge, you're arrows are a little weak, and your nock point is off.  It's a combination of both.
