what do you'll use as shelf material.
i have been using mole skin and it seems to wear out really fast. and i was looking for something that is more durable and easier on my arrows.

could you also post pictures of how you build your selfs. i am about to have a bow built and was wondering the best way to cut a riser. i generally use a toothpick and moleskin to build up the area above my grip.

I use the fuzzy side of heavy duty velco.  The peel and stick.

I use the felt you buy at the hardware stores (Lowe's, Home Depot) for the bottom of furniture feet.  It is thick and tough.  Lasts a good long time and has a adhesive backing.  Comes in a pack about 4" x 5".

I really like the stuff that Jim Reynolds from Thunderstick Archery sells.  I think its just black calf leather with the hair still on. It the quietest material I've used.  I'm sure many sponsors carry it.

I quit using velcro when I drew my bow on one of those cold silent mornings.  Couldn't believe how loud it was scraping across my arrow.

Aligator leather is what I use, your bow will wear out first.

My recurve came w/ sealskin and it wore down pretty quick. After the hair came off, there was some noise when I drew my carbon arrow back.

Terry Ya get from Alligators....Ya got to be rely sneaky....
Seariously....Befor I sent my Saxon to Dano to be refinished, I took the shelf material off, and I shot the bow a few times and was surprised at how quiet it was....
I think if your shelf material wears to quickly, your tuning is off....To much pressure for what ever reason, nocking point etc....

I tried seal skin and it wears out very fast, The wool side of velcro seemed pretty good, and plain leather is OK but I recently tested the Cari-bow Peregrine and it came with Beaver Tail leather on it. It is the best shelf material I have used.It is quiet looks great and it doesn't show a mark after shooting it since early fall.

Pete and Terry, have you ever tried cordavan leather or sharkskin. They are both very tough. If you want to try them, let me know.
