Shot the Silvertip today- haven't had a lot of time to get out and shoot lately and have never hunted with a recurve/longbow- and shot really well at Aurora Reservoir.  Out to 30 yards, I was within 8-10 inch groups.  So that settles it.  I'm going to hit it hard for the next 3 weeks and take the recurve instead of the wheelie bow on Labor Day.

Gave the wheelie bow away today to keep from getting tempted should my shooting falter.  Just need to spend more time shooting (and making) arrows.  Pictures of fat cow elk to follow on Tuesday, 9/4/07- that ought to be enough pressure on myself.

Good luck, with the last few days of rain and cool weather I'm ready. Can not wait to smell that high mountain air, even if there is not much air at 13,000'.  :)

The one year I tried a wheelie, way back when, I never shot better at targets ... and never shot worse at live game. Just no time to mess with stinking gadgets like releases and range optics and picking the right pin when a bull is yelling in your face. It cost me a bull and I gave it away next day. In my view, the simplicity of a stickbow is a "nothing to go wrong" advantage in real hunting situations that far exceeds what gadgets can give us. Unless you cut the bowstring with a broadhead in your excitement to string an arrow, it's basically bulletproof (bad pun). More power to you. dave
