My latest set of woodies from Pat Carter at Back Porch Traditional Archery.

Beautiful work guys. Ray those look like some great pig getters. I have recently gotten back into building wood arrows. I can't really remember the reason I ever stopped.  Carbons are easier and maybe more accurate at long range but in a hunting situation wood arrows have worked well for thousands of years. Plus there is the satisfaction of taking game with a shaft that you carefully crafted. Right now I'm working on a batch of Sitka spruce from hilldebrant and they are turning out to be the finest arrows I have ever built largely due to some new info I learned on this site. I should have some pics to post on this thread in a few days.

Mike. Where are you getting that neon green paint?

It is glow in the dark paint that is made for fishing lures.

Beautiful work guys. Steve you should really be able to track those. You see guys, my excuse for not showing my craftsmanship on my ash arrows is that I don't want to make them to pretty or I might not shoot them as much as I should.   :archer2:

Prairie dog

Thanks for all the arrow pics.  After reading all the "build along" threads I recently made my first wood arrows.

Nice Rick!
Those top white ones sure are classy looking.
I really like the stain on the broadhead tipped one.

Thanks guys.  The stain is Minwax dark walnut on Sitka Spruce.  The copper in the cresting of the whites is kinda new to me, but I'm starting to like it.  They were made to go with a bow with an ebony/myrtle riser and myrtle limbs.  The glowing things in the middle are mine.

Those "glowing things" will be easy to watch disappear through some hide.

That dark walnut stain really gives a nice contrast.
I've only been able to get that black & light tan contrast by using multiple stains.

Looks good!

Very easy to do with Douglas Fir.  The wood grain really "pops" out at you.

Both Doug Fir and the Sitka stain nicely, but Sitka is a very white wood which really make the stain bring out the contrast.

I like the way stain brings out the grain in doug fir also Mike. Just finished these. I used ebony stain which goes well with the barred feathers.

These are doug fir also. I left them unstained and just clear coated.
