The WOODIES of Trad Gang

Yep, the title sez it all ... anything and everything about WOODIES!  there's something extra special about wood shafts that twangs a "traditional" chord in the heart strings of most trad bowhunters.  so, for all their goodness - and faults! - if you love wood hunting arrows - if you shoot them, if you build them, if you love the way they look, feel, smell, fly and kill critters - add your comments and images to this thread and let's see it become a great gathering and sharing of woodie arrow knowledge for all.

Autumn Legend

When summer's gone and leaves turn gold

from frosty mornings to colors bold

Our hearts are pulled to the woods again

where hunting time must soon began

With bow in hand and arrows true

the goal is clear what we must do

Release the hunting spirit bold

then Autumns Legend can unfold

We live in the present, we dream of the future, but we learn eternal truths from the past
When you were born, you cried and the world rejoiced. Live your life so that when you die, the world cries and you rejoice.
Life is like a wet sponge, you gotta squeeze it until you get every drop it has to offer

Ron LaClair

When the sky is gray before the dawn
what lies in wait for the gobblers song
When the call comes back and the birds respond
what quivers slightly like a magic wand
At the moment of truth when the shaft does sing
what ends the hunt..... Shadow Wing

We live in the present, we dream of the future, but we learn eternal truths from the past
When you were born, you cried and the world rejoiced. Live your life so that when you die, the world cries and you rejoice.
Life is like a wet sponge, you gotta squeeze it until you get every drop it has to offer

Sitka Supreme
The woods are quiet when the sun goes down
The rustling of leaves is the only sound

A buck appears as if from a dream
you're ready for him with a Sitka Supreme

Ramrod straight and tough as nails
A darn good arrow for hunting Whitetails

When the moment of truth rolls around
your Sitka Supremes won't let you down

We live in the present, we dream of the future, but we learn eternal truths from the past
When you were born, you cried and the world rejoiced. Live your life so that when you die, the world cries and you rejoice.
Life is like a wet sponge, you gotta squeeze it until you get every drop it has to offer

Firefly
Deep within the forest glade, that's where the big bucks lie
The canopy is heavy there, it covers up the sky
In gloomy shadows void of light, nothing's very clear
especially the outline, of the ghostly whitetail deer
But when you send your arrow, upon it's deadly flight
you'll know it's path through the gloom, by fletching showing bright
Like it's namesake, it's clear to see, like a beacon in the sky
This arrow is the hunters friend, it's called the Firefly

We live in the present, we dream of the future, but we learn eternal truths from the past
When you were born, you cried and the world rejoiced. Live your life so that when you die, the world cries and you rejoice.

wow good looking stuff Rob and well said my friend well said.I do shoot some vintage fiberglass arrows every now and then but I gotta tell ya there ai'nt nothing like the real deal.I'am getting ready for elk season. And I been kind of testing some arrows shooting 2 each of about every arrow material known to man.One with a field tip and one with a broadhead. For some odd reason I keep ending up right back with these.I would also like to mention because you asked for comments ... they smell good when you break em bd

Isaiah 49:2...he made me a polished arrow and concealed me in his quiver.

Carbon is good and aluminum is cool... But for deer hunting I'll take woodies any day of the week! Just feels right.......

Woodies forever! If I could afford it, I'd make them and shoot them off a cliff, just to watch 'em fly.

I'm in the middle of finishing up half of my Surewood Fir's! I don't know if I should post a pick of them, you guys are way out of my league. I love the process of making woodies, the way they fly, and gotta love the way they put the game down!

Isaiah 6:8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?"
And I said, "Here am I. Send me!".

I love the fact I can stain them any color I want.
Easy to cut, just the right weight can be achieved through different types of wood.
You can't beat the look and nostalgia of wood.
I just like the look of a tapered shaft.
I like the feeling of being more involved in making the arrow.
Personally it seems easier to pick a straight shooting spined arrow.

I see a lot more "which carbon or AL arrow do I need?" posts than "which spine wood?" posts.

Woods are more personal. Glad I switched. Killer arrows above! Not fair Snag. Beauts.
