It got hot in more ways than one this weekend.  I was standing in the top of the draw that splits the vineyard, admiring the view, when out of the corner of my eye I saw a shadow on the grass coming down the trail. Definately a deer. Just didn't know what gender. I melted back into the grass at the side of the trail and waited. I had the wind on my side and good cover. A few minutes later a very large doe walks up to me. If we were allowed to shoot does here my tag would have been filled. A lot of action with does but no bucks.
Next day there was a fire on the property! Tree fell on the powerline and started a fire. Burned about 25-30 acres and came about 100 feet short of the vineyard and 50 feet short of my friend's house.
No hunting this weekend as I'm on call for work; can't be more than an hour away from downtown. Next Monday or the following weekend I'll be at it again. Then it's off to Africa!
