I came across a couple of bows and am set to pick up one, both, or neither today.  I would like some information about what they are, value, and how good of shooters they are.

The first one is a Bear Kodiak Hunter. 53# @28 and is 58inches.  It has a gold( brass)coin and has dark green glass limbs.  There is only one of the stress lines in the upper limb near the riser.  It looks like it is a single type of wood in the handle.

The second one is a Damon Howatt, but I don't know what model.  It is 60# at 28 and has a substantially beefier handle than the Bear above.  The riser has a beautiful grain compared to the bear and is much more figured. The riser has about a 7/16th inch grey stripe going up it. The limbs look like maybe black walnut????  They are beautiful limbs.

Before I went to look at them, I was really interested in the Bear bow as I have read a bunch about them on here and it would be my first Bear.  I saw the Howatt and fell in love. It is a beautiful bow.

Any info is helpful.  Thank you.   :bigsmyl:

What is the asking price?
Can you try both first?
I see you own an Attila.Have you tried many other bows?

I can not try either first as it is a private party, but I have strung them and they are not twisted and they seem to pull great.  I looked them over pretty closely.  Any idea on what I should be paying as I think I may have some room to negotiate.

Has he given you an asking price? A place to start?

I've seen these bows sell from $100-$200 depending on condition. Around $125 is common.

Nothing wrong with having more bows but do you think you will like one of these bows more than your Attila? If so why? Just trying to get a feel for what you are after so I can help.

The Bear, I would say no more than $100 unless it is like new and the Howatt is tough to say but I would say no more than $150 but again without knowing the age and exact conditions they are ball park. If they are your first trad. bows ya may want to go with the lighter one(Bear). If ya can get them both for under $250 and they are in VGC. buy them! Shawn

Try to get 'em for $200 or less ($75 each or something like that) Just IMO.

Depending on the condition of course. If the guy won't budge, listen to Shawn.

My advice would be the one that fits your hand best, Forget the pretty and get the one that feels natural, Made that mistake once and bought the latest and greatest recurve and just absoutly hated the handle. I got rid of it.

I am going to buy them both and I will post pics.  I can get them for $75 each.  I like my Attila, but I love variety.  I am a bit of a collector, and a bit of a horse trader.

$75 for the hunter with one tiny stress, and sounding like a 60's,,Excellent buy,,Put down the serial numbers if you can,,If it starts with a humber and then goes to a letter like  6t8848  Then its a 1966,, 7u8654 then its a 1967,,JB

"$75.00 each"--Thatsa my boy!

Worse comes to worse you should be able to recoup most of that on the K Hunter in certain circles.

Now....I know you are going to grace these pages soon with some pictures.....right?

So I figured out, with everyone's help that the Bear Kodiak hunter is a 67.  Here are some pics of it.

Sorry, Vermonster.  I originally posted with pics the size of a wall, so I went back to resize them.

Here is the Damon Howatt.  After looking at the serial number, that starts with ESD, I would assume that it is a Super Diablo.

Here are some pics.

Either of those bows is pretty much worth what you paid for both.
