I have been a big fan of Allen Boice's Liberty line of bows for a long time. I have several of his English models, and a 66" Contender. Last week Allen sent me a 64" Contender with tempered lamboo, bocate riser and myrtle veneers. It is everything a carefully designed r/d longbow can be. It is smooth as butter and has a ton of speed, all that while showing no reflex when strung. All this for a reasonable price and a very short wait time.

One of the things I admire about Allen is that he makes no claims for his bows; no promises of this or that, no magic materials or magic limb tweaking. When you shoot one, you will make your own claims.

Roadkill

amen amen  I have a Chief and an English-Allen is a top drawer guy and bowyer.

I've been a big fan of Allen's bows ever since I picked up a Contender.  I've now shot the English and Chief too.

Love them all.

Here are a few pics of Allen's myrtle veneers he hand selects and cuts for his elite series.

Now if I could just decide between a Chief or an English...

Cutty47

Hey Ghostdog, I noticed you are quoted on Allen's site for the English.  Just curious, have you ever shot the Border Merlin?

Ghost Dog

Hey Cutty, I have never shot any of the Border line. I would like too though!

Those myrtle veneers put Allen's bows in their won class of beauty. It is hard to believe that myrtle can develop in such a wide range of color and figuring. Amazing.

I have shot the Chief too, but I do not own one. I love the "D" shape of the English and Contender. Just an aesthetics thing.

Cutty47

I know exactly what you mean about the "D" shape.  The grip on the English fits me (it's a bit wider than the Chief)just a little better too.

I have a Chief Elite and am really impressed with it.

Pete Ward is doing a review on a Liberty Chief Elite VERY soon.  I think Allen is one of the best bowyers most people have never heard of.  Hopefully this post and Pete's review may change that a bit.

HE IS THE KING OF MYRTLE VENEERS as well.

Cutty if that Swan beauty was about 15 pounds lighter, I would try to trade you out of it for a while anyway.  I might have even let you shoot my Cheif for a while if it was.  LOL!!!!!

I too love the Liberty line by Allen. I have 4 bows of his. 2 Chiefs, 1 english, and 1 Contender. One Chief and the English are "Elite's". Great shooting bows.

I'm still waiting for Carbon Castor to tell me about his. Brian, did you get my shoot pics I sent in April? Enjoy your Boice bows. Ray........

Brian...you're not fooling anyone.  We all saw that pic of you and that Sheepeater.  You'd use that Black Swan for a toothpick.  You're a monster...there are whole villages waiting to sacrifice a virgin to you now!

Allen sent me a Contender , one of the finest bows I ever shot, but down south the its hot and sweaty the grip was just too slippery for me , but The English would be the bow for me!!! :)That Chief looks very tempting!!    :clapper:

I too am a big fan of Mr Allen Boice.  I have two, a Contender and a Chief (sold a few when I dropped down in weight).  I carried the Chief at Texas Sweat last this spring.  The Contender is still a little heavy for me as I am still coming back from my arm injury.  I hope I get to the point I can shoot it again, love that bow.

I just spit Canada Dry in my keyboard over that one.  LOL!!!!!

That might get me in trouble with my wife Pete!!!

If you could use table muscle to shoot bows, I could shoot a 200#'er EASILY!!

I used to shoot the heavies, but am quite confortable and happy with my shooting between 50-60# nowadays.  If you keep that beauty long enough and I make it down that way to visit I would like flinging a few arrows out of it though.

BTW - Did that Sheepeater make my butt look big?????  ROTFLOL!!

Our emails must keep getting lost in cyberspace buddy.  I didn't get the pics, but if you still have them I would love to see them.  Do you have any pics of you and your son wearing your quivers??

My Chief is an elite with coco riser with yew limbs and figured fiddleback myrtle veneers.  It is someting special to look at and a pleasure to shoot.  I was going to bear hunt with it this fall, but I had the pleasure of carrying a Border Griffon GL loaned to me by a friend hoping I would get it bloody for him.

How have you been??
