I have always shot recurves since switching from compounds to trad. but for the life of me I cant get them to shoot quietly. I have tried every trick in the book, but I guess my standards of quietness is to high. I was thinking of switching to one of the new long bow designs, but I have very little experience with them. I like the looks of the reflex/deflex long bows or the hybrids, but what are the pros and cons of these designs? Iam sure they are all quieter than my recurves, but I would like to hear yawlls opinion before I go and drop some more money on another bow. Any help would be appreciated.

r/d bows seem to be quieter and a little faster

they are also a lot nicer in the hand because you can get almost any handle combo on them so if you like a high wrist grip you can get that without the string slap of a recurve which is what I am thinking  is happening on your bow

I think the r/d bows are very well designed for their shorter lengths  especially if you hunt from a tree stand

You need to try a few first.The State shoot is at Tannehill the first weekend in Aug.If you cold get there you could try a few different bows.

My RD longbows are no quieter if as quiet as my recurves.  If noise level is your only criteria  you may be disappointed.

I have both recurves and longbows, and my longbows are dead quiet. I like shooting my recurves but everyone of them has a level of noise that is quite a little higher than my longbows. I shoot Howard Hills and i would say they are among the quietest.

Another thing I noticed, LBs seem to be less hassle moving through the woods, as they tend not to "grab" twigs and such as much as a 'curve does.

I disagree about the noise level, the only lb's that are quieter than my recurves are straight limbed hill styles. I also owned a Cherokee by Roy Hall and  7 lakes that werevery quiet. I think ya can get most recurves as quiet as most R/D longbows. I am shooting a Rivers Edge Arroyo with static tips and it is one of the quietest bows I have ever shot. I also am shooting their Vortex(R/D longbow)and it is not as quiet as the Arroyo. Shawn

I shot the "Redneck Bottle Shoot" at Warren Womack's today, got to shoot a couple of fine longbows, and hybrids, and had a great time. I got several comments as to how quiet my widow is. That being said, I had to do more to get it as "quiet" as I like a bow to be, wasn't a real big deal, I just had to try a few different things to figure out what worked the best.
