O.K. My Friends.....Some of you know that my Dad fell and broke his leg,and that I have been staying home from work to take care of him.

Well.....I have been home and mostly inside for about a month now and I think I have a MAJOR case of "cabin fever" setting in LOL. Please bare with me if this seems alittle silly/simple/stupid(?????)

Everyone one who knows me knows that I am a "bargin hunter" all year long.One of my most favorite "huntin' spots" is the "Clearance" camo rack at the local sporting goods store.Another one of my favorite "huntin' spots" is the local Good Will store.

One of my most favorite pieces of hunting clothing is "camo jeans"!!!!! There is just NOTHING as comfortable as a good worn pair of jeans,and "camo jeans" are about as comfy as they come as far as huntin' pants are concerned.BUT.....They just about NEVER go on "clearance"!!!!!

The other day I was "huntin" in the Good Will store when something "out of place" caught my eye.....Could it be.....YES!!!!! I can't BELIEVE IT!!!!! A whole rack of nothing but black denim jeans!!!!! There must have been a hundred pairs all on this long rack.I have used faded black jeans for hunting before and I like them.

I picked out 2 pair of brand new jeans with the tags still on,and took them to the cash register.

They rang up.....$3.99 a pair!!!!!

I brought them home and tossed them in the washer with 1 cup of detergent and 1 cup of bleach,turned it on and let the machine do it's stuff!!!!!

When everything was finished, I had 2 pair of "perfect" Dirt-Brown jeans!!!!!

These will go perfectly with my Good Will Earth-Tone sweaters!!!!!

I read somewhere a few years back that 1 part brown Rit dye and 2 parts dark green Rit dye equals O.D. Green dye.  I've bleached some pairs of jeans and then filled the washing machine with water and threw in the dye....let the jeans sit in the dye for a while and then wash like regular....large brown and black magic markers can be used to add a few leaves or sticks to make a camo pattern once dry.....

Cody,Good idea!!!!! But I'm always hesatant to "Dye" anything in the washing mashine.....When I was living in my first appartment someone had "Dyed" something in one of the laundry room machines.....

If you used regular detergent you might want to hold them under a black light to see if they glow.  Nothing worse than hunting clothes that look great to us but glow like a neon sign to deer.

Guys i do allot of dyeing in the washing machine and it is easy to do. I start the washer then when it has a little water i add the dye. I let it agitate once...just prop the lid open a bit so it wont go into the rinse cycle. and then add in whatever cloth or clothes you want to dye.

You can make some different shades useing different amounts and colors of dyes. You can also put some darker dye in a bowl of water and then lay out your clothes and brush it on to make patterns. Then when it is dry put it in the dryer to make it set.

Just make sure you only wash these clothes with other darks or just by themselves after wearing them so it wont bleed on lighter colors.

When you are done dyeing just run your machine through a normal cycle with detergent and bleach....and make sure ya wipe up any dye that gets on the lid and rim! (that will keep your wife from killin ya!)

LOL you don't BELIEVE those ads do you? All we  have used for years is Tide detergent on our hunting clothes and every year have multiple deer in under 10 yards...even from the ground. I don't think it bothers them as long as we have the wind right. Glowing Neon Blue?  ha ha ha ha ha I don't think so, but that's just my opinion.

I killed lots of deer wearin' old bluejeans that my mother washed and dryed with the rest of the family's clothes!!!!!

Actualy when I added the bleach I thought the jeans would turn grey.....

The brown was a big (and pleasant) surprize!!!!!

I use husks from walnuts and/or butternuts to bring my faded camo back to life. Ever try tye-die camo patterns Chuck? LOL
I know what ya mean about being home taking care of someone. I did it for four years. My hats off to ya.

Just wear my jeans, and put on my black hipboots.  No mosquito bites, somewhat repels ticks and redbugs.

Hipboots were hipboots, before trad was 'TRAD.'

Ishiwannabe is right about walnut hulls. They make a good brown dye, and depending on the amount of hulls per volume of water, you can vary the shade of the dye job. Also, the neon question never comes up. Actually, a lot can be done with natural dyes. Just ask any buckskinner.

Yep Tide original scent I think the deer and hogs like it. Maybe these La deer can't see the full UV spectrum but they definitely can't see clothes washed in Tide if your still.
