Well, 2 guys made it , 2 more coming for the first hunt. First sit produced an encounter with a fine young feller and a nice 8 point. :archer:
The hunters have to tell their own stories so it's accurate. :bigsmyl:
Stay tuned!! :coffee:
This oughta be good!

:campfire:
Saw 2 deer and 13 turkeys last night no shots. 9 deer and 5 turkeys this morning off the ground no shots. Other guys sae 10 deer between them. Deer are moving and there are a lot of them here.

Not sure if this young man is a member here but Dan is . We will get the details on it after they get it to cabin . I know it went down in sight. :bigsmyl:
 :campfire:
:campfire:
Sweet!!
Great Start!!!! Need More! :coffee:
I will have Garrett sign up today and tell his story. All I can say is this place has the most deer of any place I have hunted including St. Louis County. I s
Have seen at least 3 deer on every sit. I was watching a nice 6 point last night right at the end of shooting light and had a bruiser of an 8 point come in behind me at 5 yards and spot me. Very exciting hunting on the ground. Lol
I think the reason we keep so many deer is the cover. This farm is in CRP program and the others all around are either pasture or crops. Deer like cover and we have it on the south farm. Also some cover on north farm but there is a tree farm to south of it and crops and hay ground to north so they cross it all the time.
I wince every time a farmer takes out a patch of timber or a brushy fencerow. I know they need to make a living too tho.
There are more good bucks(according to summer pics, no cameras out now) than in years before.
Can't wait to see pics & hear tales. sure hope I can make it up there next season!
Hey folks! Dan had me make an account so I could tell my KennyM lease story of the first deer down in camp. The biggest challenge here is definitely getting a shot off with the all the eyes on you! This was the case last night, and it started before I even made it into the woods. I decided to hunt on the south tract out of my saddle and there happened to be a six point standing right where I wanted to enter the woods. We had a face off and he won, bounding back into the woods. I follow him in and find a good oak with a tight "y" trunk all the way up with plenty of cover. As I was hanging my first stick I had a doe and a spike come to 25 yards and I froze as they tried to get a better idea of what I was. They eventually trotted off to about 55 yards to watch me hang my sticks and climb up. I waved goodbye as I climbed onto my platform. Before I could pull my bow up I had a doe come in behind me at 15 yards. I waited until she worked her way behind a tree and hurriedly pulled my bow up. Now I just have to get turned around to face her, no problem. OOPS, haven't had a chance to trim all that cover so I can have shooting lanes, or even turn around. I find a limb to hang my bow on until I can get my pack off my back to get my saw out, she won't be here long anyway. Couple minutes go by and another doe and her dawn show up and the three of them have a meet up and they eventually amble off to the CRP field. I finally get my pack off and my bow hung on my hanger and my saw out and whaddaya know, a spike and a forky get to sparring 60 yards away. The spike wins. I know a few deer are in the ditch but the clocks ticking so I trim 14 branches anyway. Finally ready for a kill shot! Over the course of the next hour 3 doe come within 20 yards but none want to show me their vitals, selfish of them if you ask me. Half hour before last light the forky and spike were back and the forky was nice enough to stand broadside at 17 yards, and I was nice enough to zing an arrow right over his back. He returned the favor by standing dead still and let me get a clean pass through. He made it 25 yards and fell over in sight. That's my first buck, and my first deer with a recurve. By the way, the encounter with the eight pointer was a clean miss and him running just out of range to tease me. This is a great place to hunt and a great cabin to stay in, I'm having a blast!
Congratulations!! Love me one of them this season
Congrats!
Right on! Nice job
Awesome!!
Great start to Kenny's lease thread :archer2:
Well done Sir-the first is always remembered fondly.
Awesome, congrats.

Congrats on your first! Many more to come. Well Done!
Welcome to trad gang dan. Congrats on a fine deer and your first with trad equipment
Congratulations! I arrowed my first buck on Kenny's lease a few years ago. It really is a fun place to hunt and Kenny is a first class host!
Great story. Congrats on your first Trad buck. I hope there are many more for you on your journey. :clapper:
This guy is a hunter AND a writer!! Nice job Garrett
Congrats
Congratulations on your buck!
Nice job on your first Trad buck sir and welcome to Tradgang!
Congrats on your buck and your story! Kenny's is a special place with a great host! Enjoy!!
First week down at Kenny's lease. 2 young guys and 2 older guys the young guys took all the shots. Which is what I was hoping for. What a great place and Kenny is an excellent host. Trust Kenny's stand placement, the man knows his stuff. Shots were taken from 5 of 8 stands and one was drawn on from a sixth stand. The other 2 stands didn't get used. We did lose a fawn hit single lung blood dried up after 6 hours of trailing. Unfortunate but it happens. It was the young mans first week of deer hunting ever and he is hooked. He even bought a bow from Kenny. Once again thanks Kenny.
Semper Fi,
Dan Raney
No, thank YOU Dan!! So glad to see young guys hunt with a single string bow!! Great guys , as are all the guys who have come here!! That says a lot about the type of guys who shoot this kind of bow.

The lease certainly gave me the "trad bug". I've been home one day and just put a deposit down on a Big Jim's Thunderchild.
Ahhh Garrett, it's a slippery slope brother!! :biglaugh:
MAN !! This bunch of guys get the prize so far for leaving the cabin cleanest!! Thank you guys!!
Randy even called to tell me a couple things to look at!
We wanted to make sure we were invited back.
 Dan
Next guys are coming soon, 2 trips back they both got nice bucks. They're kinda selective.
With the number of good bucks I had pics of this summer , I think they are gonna like the selection.
And .... wait for it.... FROST forecast for Saturday morn!!! :goldtooth:
Aldo and I arrived at Kenny's last night, graciously Kenny told us to hunt Friday morning, as the weather should be good. Aldo and I were in our stands at 5:45am,
Things were slow until 8am , when a heavy body , high 3pt along with 7 does and fawns passed in front of me at 5 yards. At about 8:30, I looked behind me and there stood a beautiful 8pt, chocolate antlers, about 20" wide, never heard him, he was about 18 yards looking out into the field, he never presented a shoot and walked off into the field. A few minutes later I had 4 does pass by a 10 yards. At 9:10 I had a giant of a buck , one of the biggest I have ever seen, come through at 60 yards, grunted at him, he looked and kept walking. At 10:00 had 3 does come buy at 10/12 yards. What a great morning
:campfire:
Incredible
Got into the evening stand at about 3:45, a short time later 5 hen turkeys came by, about 5:45 a lone doe walked by and about 6:30 a doe and her fawn stopped by to visit, that was it for the evening. One of the best things for me about the lease is the owls calling back and forth in the mornings and evening, that's worth the trip alone. We'll see what happens in the morning.
What stand were you on first morning? Our group had shots out of 6 of the 8 stands and we didn't really hunt the other 2.
Dan, north farm, # 1, I've seen a nice buck out of that stand the past 3 years.
One of our guys saw him first night walking along the creek. Or another one but he said he was a really big buck with a real nice rack.
As forecast and the reason I told them they could start the hunt a day early since they were already here, the weather has hampered the deer movement part of this week. Still nice in mornings but a bit warm in evenings til sundown. Still seeing deer but not the ones they want to...
Aldo saw a good one and moved his stand to the trail he was on yesterday so ...
 :archer2:
Returned from Kenny's, another great week, saw two really nice bucks, passed on 13 shoots at bucks and does at 15 yards or less. If your looking to shoot a big buck this is place, if your looking to shoot a legal buck and/are does, this is the place.if you ever get the chance to hunt Kenny's lease, I suggest you do so. Kenny is a great host and goes out of his way to make this an enjoyable hunt. The cabin is great, I look forward to returning next year, I wish the next group of hunters the best of luck and as always, Thank You Kenny
Well Ray said it all really. The buck I saw on Wednesday evening never showed up again. Passed 8 or so shots myself on does and small bucks. Great week, even though it was a bit on the hot side, as Ray said, at least it didn't rain. I really enjoy being there, starts my season off well. Kenny does a great job, always enjoyable to come in after the hunt and sit and talk with him for a bit. Unfortunate we didn't connect this time but that doesn't mean it wasn't a success. Learned more this time and will apply it next year when we return. Good Luck to the next group, be sure to post photos.
ALDO
Thank you two gentlemen!! Already looking forward to next year, may the weather be more in your favor next time.
The big dudes don't have to move much from cover right now with the warm weather and food falling all around them.
Hoping you are shivering next year. :)

I'm not gonna post a pic, it is a young mans first buck with trad, I think. So I don't want to steal any of his thunder. :bigsmyl:
Hope the hunters will post a pic...
Ah don't go there again Brad. LOL
Ok Kenny, I understand and you are forgiven my son:)
3 hunted tonite , got a buck and a doe. Saw 8 bucks between them , some real nice ones too. I'll tell them they need to update progress.
Oh missed a yote too ...
Good for the successful hunter on his first trad deer. Can't kill your first at a better place!

To say it's been a hectic week is an understatement. We'll get an update up when things slowdown. Let's just say this is our favorite fall color.....

These guys left this morning , 4 days and 4 deer , good average!!!
I'm sure they will give a detailed report when they get home :goldtooth:
I dont know kenny. We just get pictures of blood a d no stories. Beginning to wonder if everyone who goes to your place simply cuts fingers off with sharp broadheads and then cant type afterward :smileystooges:
Jakes buck.....I need to transfer pics from my phone to my laptop so I can get a story up. My phone isn't cooperating right now.
[attachment=1]
I'm pretty sure that's what we needed to see. Congratulations Jake!
Yep good one jake!
Tim B
Woo hoo congrats Jake
Pretty sure that was Jake's first buck with a trad bow, and it fell in sight!! Bout as cool as it can get!
Congrats Jake.
So we started hunting at Kennym on Saturday, by Monday morning David and Noah had already had great hunts and harvested a deer a piece. Monday afternoon myself and my Son Luke were hunting just a 100 to 150 yards apart in one of our favorite spots. By 3:30 I spotted a smaller doe slowly feeding her way toward me. With Luke reaching the age to hunt 5 years ago it had been 6 years since I killed a deer and with the bow in my hand that David F had hand made for me and I had yet to harvest a deer with it and with a mess up on my part on a previous hunt I was more than ready to let an arrow loose and this deer looked just right. She slowly feed to a small opening through the tree branches to my left and I took the shot. I felt as if the shot might have been a little far back but she bounced a few yards off and stood behind a pin oak tree. A few minutes later she took a few more steps and started the wobbly leg dance. Within the next 10 minutes I had climbed down and took some pictures. It was still early and hey I was there to hunt. So I climbed back up in the saddle to enjoy the rest of the day and wait for help to arrive after there hunts. I had no idea what was yet to come....
Nice one Darrell!
Tim B
Way to go Darrel!!
Hint: this gets better even than this ... :bigsmyl:
Congrats fellas.
Nice to finally see some pics of what lies at the end of those blood trails.
....so I settled back in my stand, with that good feeling of just putting a deer down. About and hour and 15min later I was looking forward to giving my story back at the camp and hearing the others when I heard something in the leaves. I take a look and there is a good buck coming in from the same way my doe had. He was slowly feeding toward me as I was getting ready for him to step out into my shooting lane. As he got closer I could see he had tall tines. 3 on each side I could tell. I couldn't quite make out any brows but knew they had to be there. He unfortunately didn't come through my hole as he stayed out just in the cover where I didn't have a shot. As he passed through he noticed a doe that was further away to my left. Sure enough he took off to chase her. I thought to myself "well that was fun to see a good buck close" but Graciously she led him right back to where I first saw him and that's where he stopped and let her trot away. He then turned and headed straight back to me. This time he turned to my right to give me a 18-20 yard broadside shot but unfortunately there was one limb in my way. I needed one more step but he wouldn't give it as he turned back behind the brush. To my surprise he then headed right toward my open hole that I had. This time he was nice enough to feed right out in my opening. Nice 10-12 yard shot. He turned his head away and I zeroed in. Arrow passed right through. He ran off about 20 yards and stopped. I heard him cough that bad cough about 3 times and he started to walk away. I quickly texted Luke as he was headed his way to tell him to watch for that buck and to not take his eyes off him. But it wouldn't matter cause as soon as I finished typing I heard two more coughs and limbs breaking. I looked up and saw that white belly. I was so excited. I have had so many missed opportunities with a good buck and to now have my first trad horns with that bow that David F built for me was the greatest feeling. One hunt I will never forget.
Wow! Blessed day!
Awesome, congrats Darrell.
Ha that's great....welcome to MO
Tim B
Sweeeeet!!!
Great job Darrell!! Great pic too!
As Darrell said, it was a great hunt. When we were driving up Friday night we stopped to get a burger and talked about the oncoming hunt. Luke wanted to know who everyone thought was going to get the first deer. LOL like it was a given that someone was for sure going to kill one. Eleven year olds are very optimistic, especially Luke. Of course, I said "I am"!!
This was our 10th year in a row to hunt Kenny's lease. Kenny is so good to have stands up for all the hunters to start out on or hunt the entire hunt. We arrived at the cabin at straight up midnight and got up to hunt at 4:30 to get ready to hunt. So we all sat on some of the stands Kenny had up. I choose N1. I love that spot and have taken deer there before. It is a great spot to see alot of deer and see where they are going. By 9:00 I had seen three doe. One had been just outside my comfort zone so I let her pass. About 9:15 I saw a deer come from the west at a fast lope. It came straight to me. Stopped at 15 yards but was still headed straight to me. She turned to my left and went behind a small bush. I drew and she was broadside at 8 steps. I had already drawn my newly built longbow "Double Ugly" so I let the arrow go. Dead center but through the shoulder. She bounced out at about 20 yards and blood was gushing out of both sides. The double bevel Grizzly did the trick. She went another 10 yards or so and fell. She got up and did a little spin and was dead. SO, PaPa did kill the first deer on the trip. A really big ole doe the I was tickled to death to take.
I saw many many more deer on the trip. I had at least 10 more opportunities to shoot. I missed a nice 8 pointer that was outside that comfort zone. I passed many smaller bucks. I saw at least 2 bucks in the 130"-150" range. I was so excited for Darrell. It was an afternoon he will never forget. And yes, I was very proud of the fact that we all hunt with my bows. I have Kenny to thank for that too. He has helped me so much along the way. I am going to ask Darrell to post some more pics of my deer. Can't wait till next year to do it again.
David's deer.
In my post I said I killed my doe on N1. I meant S1 on south farm.
That's the way to do it. Congrats Darrell and David
Great Guys!!! Thanks for sharing!
Congrats David...

Biiggg doe!!
Great hunt guys, and nice buck Darrell!!
David
Hahaha no Kenny, no secrets on that spot. It is one of my favorites on the place. Don't matter which way the wind blows. Deer coming at you from every direction. LOL
Old grandpa is so far ahead of the boys now he can't be caught.
David they are tryin to catch up!!!
I know Kenny. I have to try a lot harder now days just to keep up. Maybe they have had a good teacher. And a better MO huntin guide.👍
I have decided I know absolutely nothing about deer except they always come from behind me... :biglaugh:
Kenny, you need to invent the rearview mirror for the stand :readit:
Actually several years ago there was an ad for the deer view mirror to put on your stand !
I remember those and often thought of getting a big mirror for a jeep or somethin just for that
Tim B
Me too Tim!! LOL
Hunters coming in Friday for a week !!! Does should be close to being taken care of I suspect so food and cover and a tree in between !!
Bucks seen, doe down!! :bigsmyl:
:campfire: update good, story needed
:coffee: keep it coming!!!! I look forward to hunting there some day.
What is with theses guys not posting pics and stories. Kenny you need to start fining guys who don't update the story. :goldtooth: :goldtooth:
Nice job!
Tim B
Way to go guys! Thanks for sharing!
LOL Dan, they are busy!! I don't have that in the contract. Hmmmm :biglaugh:
Got back last night. I don't take my computer with me on hunts and don't get on the internet at all. It's my break from all the technology as well as everything else. My buddy Donavan that was in camp with me isn't on tradgang but he is the one that shot the doe. Made a great shot and watched her go down! Nice size doe too! We both saw several bucks during the week. I saw probably six different bucks and they were all shooters in my book except for one little forky. Unfortunately I started experiencing mild symptoms in camp and found out my wife back home tested positive for china virus so I didn't hunt much the last couple days and we left a day early. I wore my mask all the way home and sure hope I didn't pass it to Donavan or Kenny. Hope I can get back there in the future and hunt it right. It's a neat property to hunt and Kenny is a great host! I tried to post a pic of Donavan's doe but the reply wouldn't post with the pic.
Damn, hope you and your wife do ok fighting the virus.
Hope you and your wife are doing well Gary! Thanks for coming down and maybe next hunt will have a better ending!
[attachment=1]
Good shot Sir! Congrats!
Congrats donovan. Gary I hope you recover well!
Sorry your hunt was shortened. Hope your wife and you feels better.
Thank you for the well wishes! We're doing well so far; just a little achy is all. I knew something wasn't right when I was sitting on the stand just south of gap stand and I opened up my bottle of Tinks 69; held it right under my nose, and couldn't smell a thing.
As Ahnold says, "I'll Be Back"!
Congratulations guys. Maybe next trip up will be better and healthier.
ttt
Got a lone hunter here, he has been scouting and hanging stands in advance of changing winds. Monday he said he had a great 10 point at 10 yards, but no clear shot. Good on him for not forcing it, sometimes that doesn't work well. Didn't spook the buck so he may get another go with him...
Last guys will be here Saturday, this was the hunt Chad Holm had booked before he passed. Sure gonna miss him!!
Hello Fellow Trad Hunters
Another excellent hunt at the KennyM Lease. It's always a pleasure to get a week off from work and just hunt! For starters I saw more deer this year than any previous year and this includes while hunting, getting to and from the hunt and while driving to Brookfield. The deer were everywhere this year. The main gun season had ended almost three weeks prior to my arrival. The deer had resumed normal patterns, and I was seeing them up to 2 hours after sunrise and 2 hours before sunset.
As far as bucks go I saw a good number of spikes & forkys, a few 6 and 8 pointers and one nice 10 point.
Without going into too much detail.... I had sat up a stand in a tight area with plenty of shooting in front of my stand. There were no lanes to my left or right and very little shooting behind me. After a good while sitting and thinking I was going to get skunked I heard walking to my left in the thicket. I eventually saw movement, and I thought I saw something white but it was extremely thick and just a fleeting glimpse of movement. Two does eventually walked out in the opening in front of me and milled around. I stayed on alert for a good while, but I finally assumed it was just the two does. I put my bow back on a hook. I put my hands back in my pockets and grab the hand warmers. (temps were in the low 20s) The does turned and started walking in a direction that would put them downwind of me, so I was waiting for the eventual foot stomping and the alert blows. With my hands in my pockets I watch the does move to my left when I saw a very nice 10 point trailing the does and he let out a low grunt. At this point he was already less than 10 yards but still in thick cover but he was moving to a shooting lane. I lifted the bow off the hook and about the same time the does were just starting to get wind of me. All the deer went into alert mode and the buck stopped with his vitals covered. I started to raise the bow to get into position, but it touched an over-hanging twig which made the buck look in my direction. He stared in my direction and then flipped around and bound a few steps and stopped again. He stood there for another 30 seconds in thick cover before running off. I'm still thinking about this one....
Until next year...best holiday wishes to all the trad hunters.
And many many thanks to Kenny for coordinating this lease and hunts!
Craig, you are most welcome, always a pleasure to visit with you.
And your snow was a couple weeks late, two inches of sleet, rain and snow today but the ground is white now.
Got a father/son team here now, they are playing cat n mouse with a group of 5 bucks...
Ice and snow yesterday and last nite, but have a buck down on lease today !!
Looking forward to pictures and the story!
Congratulations Kenny and ALL who participated - this is well run!!!
<><
<——————————<<<<<
Thanks to all hunters and readers! Love to get to visit with like minded folks each fall.
The buck taken yesterday I have a pic of but want to let the guys tell their own tale.
If they don't I will post the pic in a few days... :deadhorse: :biglaugh:
Hey Guys - As Kenny mentioned, my dad and I were the father and son team down at the lease this past week. The trip was great however bitter sweet as Chad Holm was greatly missed! Chad invited me on this hunt last year and I know he was looking down upon us this past week. I hunted with my lucky Holm Made Osprey all week, that Chad had made for me a few years back.
Overall, the hunting was great, temps were cold, and we had an ice storm come through Tuesday. Wednesday morning, about a half hour after shooting light, my dad shot a nice buck! He ended up hitting it a bit back, so we gave him time and recovered him in the early afternoon.
We mostly hunted the south farm as we were seeing great buck activity in daylight! I killed a buck down at the lease last year and was very thankful for the opportunity to come back and share stories with Kenny!
Kenny - thanks for all you do, we truly had a blast and look forward to coming back in the future!

Great buck. Congrats to your dad. Thanks Kenny for making all this possible and bringing it to us through the year.
Thanks to all of you guys!! Now to put some cams back out and see what's around...
Nice buck! Congrats and thanks for sharing!
David
Congrats!
:clapper:
Congratulations.
Congratulations! Nice buck! Were you anywhere near the gap? Pretty sure I have a short history with that buck myself.
I've said it before, but I'll say it again, Kenny is the real deal! Thanks for all you do Kenny in putting these hunt opportunities together!
David
Congrats!!! Great Buck.
KennyM Lease is an awesome place.
Yes sir!! Nice buck!
Wow, what a place. I for one can't say enough about the lease hunt in good ole Linneus, MO. Me and my boys look forward to it more and more each year. We start planning for it on the drive home and don't stop talking it up until we get back to the cabin.
If you haven't noticed, I think about bowhunting every day, too much some folks(Renee) say...
I thank everyone who came to hunt or read this thread .
Stay safe and bowhunt!!
