Where can one find a heavy cardboard mailing tube that is approximately 69 or 70"?  I have a longbow that will hopefully sell soon, and am not sure how to package it.

Carpet warehouses have the center tubes from rolls of carpet. You can usually get them from them no charge.

Age brings us the priceless gift of experience and knowledge. . . Priceless, but not free.

If you can't find the center tubes from carpet rolls, PVC sewage pipe works extremely well.  Not the "schedule 40, etc.." pipe - that's too heavy and thick, and shipping will cost a ton.  I'm talking about the "sewage pipe" - I normally buy the long pieces - I can't remember if they are 8' or 10' - I'm thinking 10', and two of the sewage pipe caps (also thinner and lighter), and I spend less than $10 for the whole setup.  Pack the insides and around the bow, slip on the caps and tape them in place with packing tape.  I originally started buying these to make lightweight, fully enclosed, bottom side access back quivers.  After getting them to my house, I found they make excellent shipping containers for longbows and custom arrows.  I get the 4" diameter normally, but I think it's also available in 6".
All the best,
Glenn
If at first you don't succeed.... buy newer / better equipment!

A three inch tube will work fine for a longbow.  Just sent one to Nebraska a few weeks ago.

I just got a bow inside a PVC gutter leader probably bought from a Lowes or Home Depot.Worked great.
I've sent in pcv pipe as Canjuntec described.

Would the 4" diameter size work also for a "hybrid" longbow or would it be better to get a 6" diameter size?

Remember to insure it ...
Check residential construction sights for carpet n flooring trash.
A peice of padding makes great wrappin' inside the tube.

Two slide together pretty easily for shipping most longbows.  Recurves don't fit as well.
