I just started using the gasket lacquer system, and it works great. I will probably never finish arrows another way again. It gives you a nice even finish, and it's really quick. I finished 2 dozen shafts in no time at all.

I've been using it for a few years and love it.  I can finish coating an arrow and be ready to fletch it in two hours instead of waiting a day for each coat to dry.
Some people say that the coating doesn't hold up in wet or damp conditions but that doesn't concern me since I hunt primarily in the desert.  Besides, push come to shove I wouldn't hesitate to shoot an arrow with flaking coating if the opportunity came up.

GL never held up any time for me.  Humidity is high here in MS, and I tried every hint I could find on making it work better, but no luck.  I use an epoxy finish now--not as fast as GL, but it's easy to do, cheap, and holds up better than any finish I've ever used.

I was in love with GL until the finish all my GL coated shafts started cracking. I now put a couple of coats of GL over epoxy acetone finish to keep my cresting from smearing and to make arrows pull easily from 3D targets. It doesn't crack when put over a good waterproof finish.

You don't have to use GL to use a gasket system.  True, GL is inferior as an arrow finish.  I use a gasket with Spar Urethane.

Thats a neat idea Steve.  thanks ... matt

Steve, How fast does the Spar Urethane dry?

Steve H.

It really depend on temperature and humidity but slow.  In a warm dry place you can do a couple coats per day.

Ok thanks. I have never had problems with GL cracking or peeling and it's damp here in Pa.
