wish I could have a lot of nice bows like that, I have three

44# kern river longbow
50# bear grizzly
47# mikuta recurve
and a 48# grand river longbow on order

how long did it take you to get all those bows?

Most of those bows are from the last 5 years or so.  The straight limb longbow was my first stickbow 16 years ago.  The vintage Pearson I bought from a guy 15 years ago.  Most of the others are fairly new additions.  I don't mean to keep picking up more, they just kind of HAPPEN.  My wife asks me occasionally why I need another bow when I can only shoot one at a time.  I am still looking for a good answer.  Ever since I started hanging them up on the wall, though, I just tell her it's like having art.  She seems to buy it so far.  Besides one of those is hers

How do like those Dakota bows.  Those are the ones by Rick Welch aren't they?

I like them a lot.  In fact, except for a few years I spent shooting a Black Widow when I first moved back to MO, they are the only bows that I have hunted with for the past 10 years.  I am a bit biased as Rick and I have been friends for over a decade, but they shoot as well as anything I own.  That said, I still have a number of bows that I play with from time to time as you can see, but my Dakotas always end up going to the woods with me.  Brady

ery nice. I hope to one day have a place to display my bows like that. I don't have anything as nice as that yet. Most of mine are selfbows I have made. I have a few old bear bows as well.

My wife says the same things to me. "Why do you need so many bows?" My answer one time was "Why do you need so many purses and shoes?" ...She doesn't aske to often anymore. Of course if I started buying the more expensive bows (instead of making selfbows) she'd start asking I'm sure. LOL

Very nice!  I'd love to see another pic of the Dakota grip close up, if possible, Doc.

I've been told that they have a bit of a swell right about mid-palm and was interested in taking a look at that.

I have several different grips.  I have been shooting Dakotas for long enough that I have bows of different stages in development.  Also, I have him shape my bows pretty much to order.  The typical "mid-palm swell" is hidden behind my shooting gloves on the 2 older bows that are strung.  The osage/micarta longbow and the cocobola/walnut recurve (1st and 3rd hanging bows) are new and are typical of what he does now.  You can get about any type handle you want, though.  Shooting open handed, I like the thinner grip, for closed handed shooting the swollen grip is awesome.

Do they still have those nice peach orchards down in Marionville?  I hadn't thought of Aurora in years.  My dad used to buy his pickups down there.  Quite a haul from Chesapeake.  Wonder if the old hatchery is still alive?  Very nice stuff.  I wouldn't mind too much waiting in your office.  LF

Old house.  Moving into the new house starting this weekend.  It has more room for my mounts   .  Currently several of my bigger mounts are hiding out in the basement of my clinic, but they kind of scare the office girls    

KirkII, you are right, I need an elk mount.  Can you hook me up   .

Cutty, Which video do you have coming?  I think they all show his older style of bows.  He changed them about a year and a half ago.  He is definitely a shooter....the stories I could tell.

leftyfred, they still have the peach and apple orchards and white squirrels (really) all over town in Marionville.  I just sold a house near the Chesapeake hatchery, it's still operational.  Thanks for looking.  Brady
