My first Woodies.

The yellow feathers are on Douglas Fir test shafts from Braveheart, and the greens are on Ash shafts that I bought while I was Kzoo. I'm pleased with both woods, but I'll be using the Ash for moose hunting.

I'm still in the tuning phase, so the feathers are a bit messed up.

I used Minwax stains and sealer (quick dry oil based poly). I did the cresting with Sharpies.

Sure like shooting these woodies. Now I have to figure out what to do with all the aluminum arrows I have. Suppose I could turn them into pea-shooters for the neighborhood kids!

Great slide show and thread, guys!  I am even more excited about becoming a trad guy.  Expecting to ditch the wheely soon and shopping for my first trad bow since teen years . . good to remember how important--and rewarding--the 'arrow' portion of bow & arrow can be . . .

Those were done by Charlie [Cyclic Rivers] That was his first try at feather burning....I think he done good!!               [/b]
There's only 2 left like that, the others were turned to 3 fletch after a glue failure and I didn't have the wire bent for that shape or the 4 fletch jig. LOL  I used 3, 5 inch parabolic cut turkey feathers instead.

I have to admit, I took inspiration from Trad Gang central from an arrow in a rack of a deer skull.

Great looking arrows guys!  Here's half of my latest set. (made a dozen but broke one already at the local league night, a picture showing 11 didn't look right...)

Keep it going!

Have an upcoming hog hunt this weekend and built some Poplar arrows to stand out right at dusk and hopefully find easily after dark...with blood on 'em.

There are some really impressive arrows in this thread.  I'm not sure I'll know where to stop!   :D

I like to shoot good woodies but you have to be careful what you buy. I like my woodies to vary no more than 5 gr from shaft to shaft. Most woodies that you buy commercially will vary much more than that.

I recently bought a lot of archery stuff from a past (deceased) friend's collection. In it were a dozen arrows that I had made about 15 years ago, and several partial sets by a well known arrow technician by the name of Kenneth Byrd. I didn't photograph the arrows that I made but did photograph some of the "Byrd Built" arrows. I'll try to show them later.
