I have a 25 inch draw, and I've experianced that my bows shoot better at a lower brace height than a higher brace, does this have somthing to do with my short draw length? and does any one else experiance this?

as another 25" draw guy, I'm going to be watching this thread.   Thanks for putting it out there, Jonesy.    I haven't paid a lot of attention to brace height and feel that probably most of my bows are a bit low when compared to "standard practice".

Hey Jonesy....I can answer that one without being a long time trad guy.....with the shorter brace height you arrow stays with the string longer on the power stroke and gives it more speed and KE on the business end....longer brace hieght shorter power stroke.....less poop....

Ps: Did ya get my email bro?  Kirk

Kirk is right on the lower brace height.  But that would only be if your arrows don't interfere with the riser as they will be held longer.   Are you talking about your Predator?  I noticed on both of  mine I like the brace at 7 and 13/16 for arrow flight and sound.  A little high.  But I am shooting 5575s with high FOC. Lighter spined arrows might fly better at a lower brace.  Plus everyone is a different apple.

Jonesy, I have a 24" draw and build my own bows and find that the lower brace, like Kirkill said, it keeps the arrow on the string longer and gives a bit more speed to the short draw. The only draw back is noise that can be dealt with by placement of string silencers.

On all my bows cascade, predator, cactus cal,and couch bow all of them are low brace. I understand the power stroke thing with the string and all,but when a bowyer recomends a specific brace ht. and mine ends up being half inch shorter then recommended well, gets me to thinkin, why?

There is one correct brace height.

That's the lowest one that gives you good arrow flight and noise that you can live with.

Bowyer's recommendations are just that, reccomendations.

And a lower brace height will benefit every archer as far as power stroke goes, not just those with shorter draw lengths.  I can't think of anything other than maybe shorter limb length that gives an advantage to a short-draw archer.

thanks to all, and to Jonesy for posting.   I knew there had to be specific factors involved, but physics ain't my thing, and the simple explanation here helped a lot.

I was shooting jonesy cactus cal tonight and it was faster with the lower hight but it had alittle more hand shock than when  i shot it with the higher brace hight last week

eagle24

I find the brace height where the bow seems the sweetest with the least amount of hand shock and noise....period.  This also seems to be the height that I shoot the bow best at.  I have never really thought about it, but one of my buddies who draws about 25" braces his bow really low.  At my 29" draw, I feel hand shock when I shoot it, but he feels like the low brace is the smoothest spot for him.

jonesy

Heres my take on it, like it matters, i think its all about timing, its what happens the exact momment your arrow leaves the string, for example if you torque the riser at say 7.00 inches and get bad flight then you move your brace to 8.00 and get good flight i think its because the nock left the string later nanoseconds before you could torque the riser, and arrow fly's well. make sence? jonesy

GOODWIN

Newbie here...how do you change brace height? Change the length of the string by twisting it?

jonesy

twist string clockwise to ht brace and counterclockwise to lower brace ht.
