I'm curious to know how that other guy didn't kill that deer....was there not much penetration? Expandable broadhead maybe? [/QB][/QUOTE]

Like TJ said above, that arrow went straight thru both backstraps, never touching anything vital!

Must not have been much of an angle.

It was not. It was a hole straight thru at that level. I talked to the guy who shot him first, and he said he had shot him with a wheel bow at 35yds.

That being said, if you hit a deer where that hole is, no matter the angle, there is a great likelyhood that you will not find the deer. It would most likely be no lung, or a one lung hit, and even if the deer was to die, it could go a very long ways before that happened.

Bisch. I've got the single bevel version that Alaskan makes, the Massia. I'm itching to get a good pic of a wound channel! I lost one that I shouldn't have this past season but I'm hoping to redeem it soon.

Rob,
Is that second arrow angled backwards? Remember the verdict? How far it went?

Daniel, that second one was actual angled toward the opposite front shoulder. The broadhead got out the other side and broke off. He went 40 yrds and was done. The rest of the shaft took that funny angle we he went down.

Oh, ok.  I was wondering.

good shooting, Rob.

Another Simmons 175 Tigershark.  Notice how clean my arrow looks     :saywhat:

The deer turn into me at the shot resulting in a graze across it neck.  But with a Simmons thats usually deadly!

Now here is why if you are using a narrow double bevel you should switch to a single bevel IMO
Compare the typical single bevel hole here:

To the typical double bevel hole of the same outside diameter broadhead specs (this was a proven name brand broadhead which shall go unamed but has been around for decades):
Entrance:

Exit:

Are you playing where's Waldo? ...me too and you can bet the blood trail was a where's Waldo trip too. Single bevels offer a slight penetration advantage but they also open a bigger whole for recovery.

Of course they all kill just as humanely and all these animals died with so little pain that all not one of them stopped and began resuming activity before succumbing within seconds...that is a good feeling for any avid bowhunter!

I've used the popular 2 blades and 3 blade heads and they all gotten the job done, but the Simmons heads in my opinion have turned marginal shots into recovery.  And for that alone they have become my favorite head at the moment.

And the blood trails have been fantastic!

I am a very big simmons supporter as well.  Bottom line is that Jerry Simmons knew what he was doing and his products are still proving that.  I have shot the interceptor, tigershark, and tree shark.  I haven't found that even the largest treeshark is hard to tune.  I love their products!

I'm curious as to the penetration depths with the Simmons heads compared to more standard width heads. Especially with bows that are under 50#'s.
Plant a fruit or nut tree today, and have good hunting tomorrow.

I can't speak to penetration queries as both of the deers I shot using the Simmons Tigershark were just grazing shots and both deer died from the blood lost.

One is on this page above and the other is posted on page 21.

The one on page 21 died from her paunch being unzipped and her bowels spilling out.  I honestly thought when I came to track (left for 3 hours) that upon finding her gut pile that someone had stolen my deer!

The one above died from what appeared to me only a muscle wound, but the blood was a bright red showing possibly an artery was cut, although none was apparent.

Man! This is about the best advertisement for Simmons broad heads anyone could imagine. I'm sold!  I just ordered 6 land sharks.
