Anyone know where I can get one?  Are they really that expensive? I've heard a lot of good things about them at the last shoot I went to.

Do a search for American Excelsior company.

Larry Janke

We got ours from American Excelsior in Minnesota. They were about $60.00 about 5 years ago but they last a long time. They are a little dirte if you use them indoors. Shipping costs almost as much as the bales do. They weigh 220# each.

geno

How big are they? dimensions. There web site doesnt give any details. They have a plant in kc. can anyone add to this ?

I read a 2 bale target is 36 X 34 X 16. Google "excelsior bales".

ChuckC

There is one version available that is made specifically for an archery target, it is not as thick (front to back) but is more square (top to bottom, side to side) so you need only one, not two.    It works well, but eventually you shoot them out.  Also, little critters sure like to nest in them.

boy does this bring back a lot of memories. that's all we used back in the late 70's when i first got hooked on bowhunting. it's been a long time since i've used one, but thinking back they were pretty good and did last. can't say i know where to get them these days but thanks for the trip back down memory lane.

Check out Pacific Bow Butts.  www.pbbts.com.  I don't think you can wear them out and you can pull arrows with one hand. I have the Super Butt in burlap and I think it is the best target I have ever owned in nearly 50 years of shooting the bow.

Thanks for the replies. Those Pacific Bow Butts look like an alternative I just may have to look more into. Thanks again.

I'm still using mine(3 banded excelsior bales) as a backstop.
I got them in the late '70s.
I built a 'house', with sides and a top for mine...
Unbelievable stuff. Be sure to 'band' them together.

I just hang an Eternity target in front.

We used to shoot into them years ago.  They were awesome.  The only problem we had is that we left them in deer camp one year, and the deer tore them apart and ate them!

The freight rate for one double, or one triple archery bale would be the same. From Rice Lake, WI to Rolla, MO it would run $98.88, plus the price of the bale.

If you need anything else, please let me know.

I had two banded together in my back yard. Took me years to shoot thru it. You might want to check an archery shop with an indoor range. They used to use these alot, maybe you can buy some used and re-band them. I did that, much cheaper.

I live about ten miles from the plant. Being so close I see quite a few around. I think the highway crews use the stuff to slow down the erosion on hillsides after road construction. Maybe your county highway dept. is using it   might sell you some.
