Just a heads up guys and gals,

Over on Stickbow we have a report that LE takedown #235 has come up stolen while in UPS transit.  Bow and case removed from box and retaped prior to delivery.

Keep an eye out if you see #235 come up for sale!

In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities. In the expert's there are few...So the most difficult thing is always to keep your beginner's mind...This is also the real secret of the arts: always be a beginner.  Shunryu Suzuki

Dang, what crap. Well if he hopes to get good money for it, its bound to pop up. So long as he doesn't hit a pawn shop for a quick $100

It looks like #235 is for sale already. I saw it listed for sale on facebook.

Anybody know how to report it to whoever deals with such crimes?

The dealer (Noble Sinclair) recovered his bow, but I don't know the details.

Smokin and Yooper.  It took me a while to convince myself to go with a low stretch string on older limbs. But the older limbs just look very sturdy to me. Their limb tip overlays are at least as thick as those on the newer limbs.  Older limbs also carry their width further toward the tips.  They're just "beefier."

I've never had any trouble, and the low stretch string improves performance and makes the bow even gentler on release. I think that with a properly padded loop, low-stretch strings are actually easier on the bow because they greatly reduce all of the limb flexing/vibration at the conclusion of the shot.  Regardless, I wouldn't feel too bad if I blew up a set of older limbs, though I don't think it's any more likely to happen with a low stretch string than with dacron. They're not really rare.  In fact, there are a lot of them around, and, given all the new limbs that Bear is churning out, folks seem less interested in the older limbs so they're also available at very good prices.

By way of illustration, I just picked up a Green Stripe riser with a set of 50# limbs so I again have three sets of 50# limbs.  One back-up set is enough so I've been trying to sell or trade the third set.  Virtually no interest. My interpretation is that there are a lot of older Bear limbs available, and the market for them is rather weak.

Took me a lot longer than I thought it would, but after about 50 years I finally bought a Bear Takedown. Wow is all I can say. I really didn't expect it to shoot on par with the customs I have hanging on the rack. But it as good or better than many of the top end bows I've spent dough on over the years. It may be pricey for a "factory bow" But I don't believe anyone who snagged one would ever be disappointed. I am indeed very happy with my purchase. BTW, got the B riser with #1 limbs for a 60" bow. I suppose some may think that is less than an optimal combo - long riser and short limbs - but at my 29 1/2 draw there is absolutely no stack that I can detect and it really zips them out there.

The bear takedown is a bow I'm starting to get interested in....versatility, easy packing and seems like a good shooter.....

A question for all the take down shooters....I'm not sure what the qualities and pros and cons of each riser are....I have a 28.5" draw, I really like a 60" bow length.....what would be the differences in the short riser/long limbs and the long riser/short limbs? If you planned on having the 60" length and using it as a hunting bow....is there a certain combo that hits the sweet spot better than another?

I have A and B risers and can make a 60-inch bow out of either.  I tend to prefer the B riser with the short limbs over the A riser and the longer limbs.  The longer limbs on an A riser should be a bit smoother, but I really don't detect a difference.  The additional mass of the B makes for a steadier hold, IMO.  A B riser with short limbs was Fred's favorite combination.  I do like the A riser and short limbs for turkey hunting out of a blind.

FWIW, I have a 30.5" draw and my Bear TD is a B riser and #1 limbs--no problem.  Smooth as butter.

Krex1010, buy one, you won't regret it.

I've had one since 1972.

Thanks for the info guys....
Roy, it's on my short list for my next bow. Just want to make sure I get the riser choice right. I figure the take down would be a nice addition to my Super K that I love so much.

I loved the B riser with #1 limbs myself! Should've never sold that one. I need to try and find a takedown from 1981. Think that's the green stripe if I looked it right. Be cool to have one from my birth year!

The A riser has a good bit shorter sight window if that matters to you.

I too was late to the game.  I picked up a B Mag riser and a set of number 2 limbs, 44# @ 28.  I have been amazed at how well it shoots and how forgiving it is with arrow spine.  Now I need a set of number 2 limbs around 48-50#.

Bear doesn't make the #2 limbs anymore, and I don't know of any after market boyers that are making them either. They do pop up on the auction site from time to time.

Felix,

Possibly.  It is improving all the time and the Bear TDs are so smooth I probably can.

Let me know what you are thinking.

thanks,
