I bought one of Adam's (AWU) brilliant recurve risers, thinking I'd bosh together a simple recurve, just to see if I could. Well, it's evolved a bit really. Not quite so simple anymore!     :biglaugh:    Possibly a leeeeeetle ambitious for a first bow project! We'll see...

It's a long way from finished, but I finally got the limbs fitted & low-braced this morning, so I thought I'd celebrate with a few teaser pics!

I know the limb pockets aren't shaped yet, but I figured that there'd be little point making it pretty only to find out it wouldn't work! I've got to go & get a string built this afternoon & then I'm going to leave it a full brace for 24hrs. Then try 100 or so arras through it & if it doesn't explode on me, I'll then get to the prettyfying  :D

It should make a very nice shooting bow.Where did you get the bolt-on limb pads?

robtattoo

I had the pads made up, by a friend of mine. They're very adjustable so I can align the limbs properly & allow for my shoddy workmanship  :D

The bow's 57-3/4" & fitted with 42# short carbon/foam limbs. It 'should' land on around 54# @ 28"

I like the flute limbs as well.I have 3 sets of the glass limbs for my Morrison now.  :)

6 POINT

Could someone please tell me about the Flute limbs? Where do you get them etc. Thanks Frank

robtattoo

The only place I know that sells the Flute limbs are in the UK. There's  www.bowsports.com  &  www.altservices.biz

Bowsports keep all the lighter limbs in stock (usually to 42#) the heavier to order. Alternative archery don't really stock much & order everything in. Wait time can be as long as 3 months! Bowsports are usually a LOT quicker.

I got the string made up this afternoon & got the bow to a nice 7" brace.
Patience not being my strongest virtue, I got to shooting. WOW!!! Fast really, really isn't the word! I chalked up 232fps over the chrono with a 560gn Pine arrow. Bearingin mind that's with no tuning, tiller all to cock, brand new string & a heavy, wronly spined arrow with 5" fletches!!!

I've got her stripped down & all shaped to the limb pads too. The staining is done & I'm just waiting for e first coat of laquer to dry.

More pics to come later......

6Point I buy mine from Alterative. They get limbs every Friday so most times it takes about 10 days to your door.My last order did take two weeks because they could not get them on that weeks shipment and had to wait to the following Friday to ship to me.Shipping usually takes 3 days and cost $30.The limbs are very good foam cored limbs that wind up costing about $180 total to my door.I buy the glass/foam limbs instead of the carbon models so have no experiance with those.I am not a big fan of carbon in my bows but I am sure they would be good limbs.

Tattoo man you are just way to talented for a UK redneck! Great job as always.<><

Well, I got her finished up this morning! All the staining & laquer is dry & I've sculpted the riser to conform to the limb pads, fitted a little leather to the shelf & window, wooly whispers to the string & set the nocking point. I did a little polishing of the ally fitting just to give it a little 'lift'
MAN! she's a shooter! Don't have a chrono at home, but I can tell that she's waaaay faster than my 72# Pronghorn. I'd take an uneducated guess at somewhere between 220-230fps!!!
Here's the finished specs;

57-5/8" 54# at 28". I admit, she stacks a little over 29", but I'm sure that's down to inexperience & I probably should've ordered longer limbs, but as I'm only drawing to 29" anyway, I really don't care!  :D

Here's the pics.....

It turned out real nice.    The good thing is now you can pick up limbs when you run across them at a price that won't break the bank when you need them.  :)
