Me too. But bocote is merely decortive, not structural, so we're either building osage selbows with bocote veneer, or backing the osage with something else and bocote atop that. I build mostly wood lam bows and after many tries with hickory backed osage, and too many failures, I've reverted to boo for backing. But in order to have a flat surface for the bocote veneer, I guess I'll have to return to hickory -- either that, or a reversed-grain osage lam backing. In either event, this one will ultimately be backed with glass to protect the bocote and assure this considerable investment in materials and labor doesn't blow up on me. What's your plan?

My plan? Buying one.Ive only just begun to attempt building with an oak board bow.Maybe next fall, when my little one is in day care Ill have time to try my hand at making one, but in the meantime that bow right there is what Im talking about.
